Prolonged heat is expected to continue through the week with highs in the mid 90 to near 100 with heat index values between 100 to 105. Little relief is expected at night when lows will only fall into the mid 70s to lower 80s.

Low end chances for shower and thunderstorm activity to impact parts of the area tonight into Wednesday morning, however most will stay dry. There is an additional chance for storms to develop across central Missouri Wednesday afternoon, but again, most of the forecast area will miss out on this activity. Otherwise expect near normal temperatures this week with temperatures warming into the 90s over the weekend.

Severe storms are possible tonight across eastern Kansas and western Missouri. While storms are remain possible throughout the afternoon hours, the most likely timing for severe storms is from 10 PM this evening through the overnight hours across east-central Kansas and west-central Missouri. Damaging winds are the most likely hazards, though large hail and a tornado or two can’t be ruled out. Locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding are also possible.

REVISED: CASS COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will conduct overnight lane closures on NB I-49 from 163rd St to 155th St for pavement work on TODAY until Saturday, August 8 between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. All work is weather permitting. Details: https://www.modot.org/node/94433

There is a marginal (Level 1/5) risk for severe storms today, generally south of I-70, during the afternoon/evening. Confidence is not high in the exact timing/location of activity today, but primary hazards are expected to be heavy rainfall and strong/severe winds.

Rain and thunderstorms will continue and increase in coverage overnight across the region. Flood Watch is in effect portions of the area with widespread 1 to 2 inches of rain with locally higher mounts greater than 3 inches expected through Thursday morning.
