The Story Center at MCPL The Story Center empowers authors, performers, and digital storytellers to create, share, and connect with stories.

Located at the Woodneath Library Center, The Story Center is a mission-enhancement program of Mid-Continent Public Library. We offer a range of free public programs, several publication options, and a collection of resources that empower people to create stories, share those stories, and connect with the stories of others. Funding for Story Center programming is provided in part by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

Join us Saturday, June 6th at 10:30am to discover the history of agriculture at Woodneath with Jackson Hodges, M.A. graduate in History from UMKC. The first half of this program will take place in the historic Woodneath house. Weather allowing, the second half will involve walking approximately a quarter mile on a gravel path and down steps to the site of the former barn and outbuildings west of the house.

May is Preservation Month! In November 2021, MCPL completed an extensive adaptive reuse project that converted the Woodneath historic home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, into the Story Center. The project won awards from Historic Kansas City and from Missouri Preservation. The Story Center is open 9-5, Monday through Friday.
