Meet Yadira, Literacy KC’s new Digital Program Instructor.

Yadira first joined Literacy KC as a Digital Ambassador through Kansas City Digital Drive, then spent the past 11 months with us as an American Connection Corps Member. Now, she’s taking on a new role focused on helping students build the digital skills they need for school, work and everyday life.

Yadira will lead weekly digital skills classes, support students and instructors in ELL classes, and introduce new digital bootcamps covering topics like Microsoft, Canva, AI and Google Workspace. She’s also helping students work toward digital skills certifications they can add to their resumes and use to showcase what they’ve learned.

“I enjoy helping students build their skills and confidence so they can reach their own goals.”

We’re excited to have Yadira continuing to grow with Literacy KC and expand opportunities for our students to learn, practice and feel more confident using technology.

August brought a new school year and plenty of activity at Literacy KC. We welcomed students, instructors, and tutors back into our spaces, held staff training days to prepare for the year ahead, and kicked off another year of learning.

Outside the classroom, we brought our community together for Music Bingo at Servaes Brewing Co. - Shawnee and celebrated CEO Gillian Helm’s Buck O’Neil Legacy Seat recognition at Kauffman Stadium with the Kansas City Royals.

School supplies make a big difference in the classroom, and we’re collecting them for our adult learners.

From September 1st through 8th, bring new school supply donations to Chicken N Pickle NKC at 1761 Burlington St. Help us stock our classrooms with items our students use every day, including notebooks, index cards, pens and pencils, dry erase markers, batteries, and more.

Literacy KC CEO, Gillian Helm, recently had the honor of sitting in the Buck O’Neil Legacy Seat at Kauffman Stadium, which recognizes individuals who have made a meaningful impact on the Kansas City community.

For Gillian, this recognition reflects years of dedication to Literacy KC, adult education, and the people we serve. Since joining Literacy KC in 2011, she has worked to strengthen our programs, expand access to literacy education, and ensure Kansas City adults and families have the support they need to reach their goals.
