The Kansas City Symphony announced the appointment of Betsy Burleigh as director of the Kansas City Symphony Chorus, the 160-voice ensemble long recognized as the choral voice of the Kansas City Symphony. Burleigh, an internationally acclaimed choral conductor, educator and director, will lead the Symphony Chorus in performances with the Kansas City Symphony and guide the ensemble’s continued artistic growth.

The Kansas City Symphony first welcomed Burleigh as guest chorus director in spring 2026, when she prepared the Symphony Chorus for performances of Rachmaninoff’s Spring and Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. From her first rehearsal, she earned the admiration of Chorus members and Symphony staff through her exceptional musicianship, insightful leadership and warm, collaborative approach.

Public safety is essential to a strong, thriving region, and progress starts with collaboration. The good news? Progress is being made!

Last week, the KC Chamber brought together leaders from across our community for our State of Public Safety, featuring KCPD Chief Stacey Graves, KCFD Chief Craig Buckley, Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson, and COMBAT Director Murray Woodard.

Our speakers shared encouraging signs of progress across the region, while also addressing the challenges that remain and the continued collaboration needed to build safer, stronger communities for everyone who lives, works, and does business here.

Thank you to our speakers for their leadership, candor, and commitment, and to everyone who joined us for this important conversation.

And a special thank you to our State of Series Presenting Sponsors whose support makes important conversations like these possible. We appreciate your continued investment in the KC Chamber and our region!

The newly opened 18th & Vine Welcome Center is welcoming visitors with more than community resources and city services. Through a new partnership with Zhou B Art Center Kansas City, the Welcome Center now features original artwork by four accomplished Kansas City artists, creating an immersive introduction to the creativity and cultural identity that defines the Historic 18th & Vine Jazz District.

Located at 1516 E. 18th Street, the Welcome Center serves as a direct connection between residents, visitors, and the City of Kansas City. Open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the space provides access to city resources while also celebrating the artists and entrepreneurs who continue to shape Kansas City’s creative community. Visitors can also purchase the artwork on display, offering a unique opportunity to take home an original work created by local talent.
