For those that remember Toy Story 3’s heart tugging scene of Andy leaving for college, many of you may have felt the same way this past week as your students, teachers, administrators, support staff, and SRO’s return to school.

Platte County’s 11 SRO’s were happy to welcome everyone back to the Park Hill, Platte County R3, North Platte and West Platte School Districts with big smiles. No “so long partner’s” around here. Only happy tears from parents of Kindergartners on their first walk to class, or the excitement of incoming middle schoolers, high school freshmen, or seniors preparing for their final year.

As our friends in the West Platte District can agree, “Kindness Matters”, “Be Brave”, “Shine Bright”, and above all, “Have a great year”. We are happy to see you. “You’ve got a friend in us!!”.

On Saturday, August 22, 2026, Sergeant Fleishans with the Platte County Sheriff's Office Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit observed a 2014 Kenworth hauling an oversized load on Interstate 29 near Camden Point. Sergeant Fleishans observed a tire starting to smoke and stopped the truck for an inspection. On the rear axle of the trailer, one tire had completely lost its tread and was close to blowing out. Further inspection revealed two additional tires on the trailer showed no tread in multiple locations.

In addition to these violations, two chains securing the front loader were loose and could be moved by hand. The load was permitted with a gross weight of 119,000 pounds. The trailer was placed out of service for the tire and load securement violations and remained parked until the violations were corrected.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind professional drivers to conduct thorough pre-trip inspections to prevent unnecessary violations.
