Global Ties KC's visitors represent emerging leaders from around the world. Our purpose is to conduct programs for professionals selected by the U.S. Embassies abroad to participate in specific professional programs. Global Ties KC works directly with the U.S Department of State, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Library of Congress, and their contracting agencies to bring

these visitors to Kansas City for professional exchange programs. These visitors literally "bring the world" to Greater Kansas City. They provide a first-hand opportunity for us to learn about countries, cultures and life in the 100 or more countries who may come to our community on these exchange programs, as they learn more about the real life of Americans in the United States.

Global Ties KC is excited to announce that our President & CEO, Courtney Brooks has been selected as one of Ingram's 2026 40 Under Forty honorees. 🎉 This award recognizes rising leaders demonstrating exceptional leadership, entrepreneurship, and community impact.

For nearly 15 years, Courtney has helped connect Kansas City to the world and build lasting global relationships. Under her leadership, Global Ties KC has grown from a two-person operation with a modest budget into a nearly $1 million enterprise with an expanding national and international footprint. “I’ve been quietly putting the Heartland on the global map,” she says, a reflection of both the scope and intention behind her work. Courtney also serves as the President of the Rotary Club of Kansas City, KS (1619) and contributes to various regional international initiatives.

This recognition reflects Courtney’s unwavering commitment to building lasting global relationships in Kansas City, civic engagement, community service, and creating long-term impact across our community. Global Ties KC welcomed Fellows on the month-long Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative - YLAI to KC last week! These 11 entrepreneurs from 10 countries and across 7 industries have been and will continue to bring fresh ideas and global insight to our community this month.

From speaking at 1 Million Cups Kansas City to connecting with local leaders and diving into KC’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, they’ve been building meaningful relationships all across the city. And they are just getting started!

Our Youth Ambassadors for Sports Diplomacy series returned Wednesday night at the iconic National WWI Museum & Memorial, bringing together community leaders and changemakers for an inspiring look at how Kansas City is preparing to welcome the world for the FIFA World Cup 2026™.

We heard from four incredible speakers:
⚡️ Matt Smith (Kansas City World Cup 2026) on marketing strategies to put KC on the global stage
🏛 Karis Erwin (National WWI Museum and Memorial) on exciting Fan Festival plans right on "KC's front porch"
🎨 Dana Knapp (Artskc - Regional Arts Council) on showcasing KC’s creative spirit
🤝 Stephen Powell (City of Leawood, KS Government) on Leawood's exciting local initiatives

The night wrapped with a powerful youth-moderated panel + lightning round. Huge thanks to our speakers, Youth Leadership Council, and community partners for making this evening unforgettable!

🇺🇸 🇺🇦 Building bridges across borders.

January wrapped up with a Ukrainian delegation visiting Kansas City on an Open World program, "U.S.–Ukraine Trade & Investment" focused on critical minerals, economic development, and relationship building.

"Ukraine faces an estimated $524B in reconstruction costs, the largest reconstruction effort since World War II.” International investment and collaboration is now critical more than ever.

From classrooms to city halls to host family dinners, this week was about connection, collaboration, and hope.

Thank you to our incredible partners and host families for connecting with the delegation and showing the hospitality of KC!

⚽ Global Ties KC Youth Ambassadors Explore Sports Diplomacy & Regional Preparedness 🌎

On Wednesday, January 28, Global Ties KC hosted the 2nd session of its Youth Ambassadors for Sports Diplomacy series, focusing on KC’s preparedness for Major Sporting events.

Held at Polsinelli , the evening brought together students for dinner, networking, and interactive presentations from two distinguished speakers: Jason Sims, Kansas City World Cup 2026 Director of Transportation, and Jimmy Walker, Fire Chief of Independence, MO.

Students gained valuable insights from Director Sims into the region’s comprehensive preparations to host the World Cup 2026™, including plans to more than double public transportation capacity to accommodate the additional local and international visitors. Chief Walker detailed the region’s strategic approach to contingency planning and emergency response to ensure safety for these high-profile events.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, allowing students to directly interact with both speakers and deepen their understanding of sports diplomacy and large-scale event management.
