Training never stops at Kansasville Fire and Rescue! 🚑🩺

On Monday May 11th our EMS providers trained on the assessment and management of hip fractures, pelvic fractures, and the important differences between the two injuries. Crews reviewed patient assessment techniques, stabilization methods, treatment considerations, and how these injuries can present differently in emergency situations.

Members also practiced proper helmet removal techniques to ensure safe spinal precautions while caring for injured patients.

Ongoing training like this helps our department stay prepared to provide the best possible care to the communities we serve. Thank you to all of our members who continue dedicating their time to training and improving their skills! 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

On Monday April 13th Kansasville Fire and Rescue continues to prioritize high-quality patient care through ongoing EMS training, with a recent focus on heat-related emergencies and trauma assessment and management. As temperatures rise and outdoor activity increases, responders must be prepared to quickly recognize and treat conditions such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and dehydration—especially in vulnerable populations like children and older adults.
During the training, EMS personnel reviewed the signs and symptoms of heat emergencies, practiced rapid cooling techniques, and reinforced the importance of early intervention. Scenario-based exercises allowed crews to simulate real-world responses, improving decision-making and teamwork under pressure.
In addition, members sharpened their trauma assessment skills using a systematic approach to patient evaluation. Emphasis was placed on identifying life-threatening injuries, managing airway and bleeding, and performing rapid yet thorough head-to-toe assessments. Crews also practiced spinal precautions, hemorrhage control, and prioritizing transport decisions.
By combining classroom instruction with hands-on scenarios, Kansasville Fire and Rescue ensures its providers remain confident and capable in high-stress situations. This commitment to training not only enhances responder readiness but also strengthens the level of care delivered to the community when it matters most.

KFRD Host Aerial Training.

On March 30th Kansasville Fire and Rescue Department (KFRD) hosted driver/operator aerial training instructed by Gateway Technical College. Eleven KFRD members completed the aerial class that consisted of both classroom and hands-on activities. The class allows the department to maximize the capabilities of the ladder truck and the capabilities of our dedicated personnel. Having KFRD members trained and ready to perform with aerial equipment will help with staffing challenges that we have been faced with.

In 2004 Kansasville and Union Grove/Yorkville Fire Department made a joint purchase of a 95 foot tower ladder. The ladder truck is an asset to both communities and was made more affordable to both communities by the joint purchase. It is housed at the Union Grove Yorkville station. You may ask why we need a 95 foot aerial ladder in our area? Here are several reasons. Tower 351 provides a safe working platform to work from as light weight construction of buildings become more common. The 95 feet gives us the reach needed to achieve these operations. The Tower also has an elevated waterway that allows us to use a master stream to gain access to hard to reach areas safely or areas that are not safe to have firefighters with hand lines deployed. Another reason is for rescues from multi-level builds, grain bins, and silos. Some examples in the town of Dover are Lakeview Neurological Hospital, Ellsworth Correctional, and many other builds found on the Southern Wisconsin Center grounds.

In the upcoming weeks the Kansasville Fire and Rescue Department will continue to train with the tower ladder as we work on water supply, driving, and operating at select sites in both communities.

March Fire and Rescue Training.

On Monday evening, March 16, 2025. Eighteen Kansasville Fire and Rescue Department (KFRD) personnel participated in Grain Bin Rescue continuing education training. KFRD emergency responders reviewed several aspects of Grain Bin Rescue operational tactics to safely carry out a rescue when time is of the essence. Crews reviewed and practiced using Personal Protective Equipment and safety procedures and worked with several various pieces of our Grain Bin Rescue equipment: Great Wall of Rescue; Grain Removal Auger; Lock Out/Tag Out equipment and the use of an Air Monitoring unit and ventilation along with several other tools and associated equipment.

Several rescue situations and considerations were reviewed and discussed to heighten our team's awareness and increase safety when facing critical situations. KFRD crews practiced their skills in scenarios to become more proficient in effectively carrying out a rescue.

🚒⏰ Kansasville Fire & Rescue Reminder – Spring Forward Safely! ⏰🚒

This weekend we spring forward as Daylight Saving Time begins. When you change your clocks, please take a few minutes to do something even more important — check and replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Working detectors save lives. A fresh set of batteries can provide the early warning your family needs in the event of a fire or carbon monoxide emergency.

✅ Change your clocks
✅ Replace batteries in smoke detectors
✅ Replace batteries in carbon monoxide detectors
✅ Test each unit to make sure it’s working properly

It only takes a few minutes, but it can make all the difference.

Kansasville Fire & Rescue Department is proud to serve our community and help keep our neighbors safe. Thank you for doing your part!

🔥 Change Your Clocks. Change Your Batteries. Save Lives. 🔥

IT'S WHAT WE DO

KFRD had a full house yesterday with having over 40 emergency responders in our classroom for our Ice Rescue Technician training while there were also about 18 Firefighter students, and many instructors, from Gateway Technical College working to develop their skills out on the Fire Training Grounds and in our apparatus bays.

The Ice Rescue training included emergency responders from 13 Fire Departments across Racine, Kenosha and Walworth counties along with Racine County Sheriff’s Office deputies braved the freezing-cold to participate in Saturday's training on Eagle Lake in Kansasville.

The very realistic training included several Ice Rescue simulations designed to prepare responders for the Low-frequency, High-Risk rescue situations that may be faced during the frigid winter months. Emphasis was placed on Victim Rescue skills and teaching various strategies and tactics that can be used to increase victim survivability while minimizing any risks to emergency rescuers or others.

We’re blessed to have an amazing team of trained, capable, competant, and equipped emergency responders that practice and prepare to face the dangers most people fear. Thank you to Educators Credit Union for making this valuable training possible for emergency crews from across the region.

SAFETY REMINDER:

• Pay close attention to changing ice conditions. Stay off thin ice!
• Wear appropriate outdoor clothing; layers of light, warm clothing, gloves/mittens, hats, scarves, and waterproof boots.
• Be aware of the wind chill factor and work slowly during outdoor activities or chores.
• Take a “buddy” and an emergency kit when you are participating in outdoor recreation, especially when going out onto the ice.
• Carry a cell phone or other means of communication.
