Additionally, we develop programs to help DHHL beneficiaries acquire the digital skills and tools necessary to utilize the internet for health care, jobs, education and other essential services.

Did you know the Hawaiian term for high-speed internet is Ka Pūnaewele Wikiwiki Loa?

The phrase combines pūnaewele, meaning network, with wikiwiki loa, meaning very fast.

As broadband access continues to expand, high-speed internet helps connect ʻohana across Hawaiian Home Lands to education, telehealth, services and opportunities.

When emergencies happen, preparation and communication matter.

A Go Bag can help you and your ʻohana evacuate quickly with essentials like water, food, a first aid kit, flashlight, extra batteries, phone charger, backup battery and more.

Reliable broadband can also support emergency preparedness by helping communities receive alerts, access updates and stay connected with loved ones.

Ho‘omaika‘i, Micah!

Today we celebrate the birth and legacy of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana’ole, Ke Ali’i Maka’āinana, the Citizen Prince. His leadership helped spearhead the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, setting aside approximately 200,000 acres to establish a permanent homeland for Native Hawaiians. His many accomplishments in service of his people and the Hawaiian Islands continue to inspire our work at the DHHL Broadband Program as we help connect beneficiary communities across the state.

Kahikinui is one of Maui’s most remote and mountainous homestead communities — far from town, far from cell towers and until recently, far from reliable communication. For families living in this homestead community, even the simplest moments carried uncertainty. Parents often had no way to reach their keiki after school. During emergencies, first responders faced dangerous delays without dependable service.

When a previous provider abruptly shut down coverage, the community was left almost completely disconnected. Click the link to read more: https://governor.hawaii.gov/main/connecting-kahikinui-when-reliable-internet-becomes-a-lifeline/
