The Envirothon is a hands-on, team-based environmental science competition that challenges high school students to apply their knowledge of natural resources in real-world situations. Organized across the United States and Canada, the Envirothon focuses on key areas such as soils and land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife, and a current environmental issue that changes each year. Students work in teams to complete written tests and field-based activities, as well as deliver an oral presentation proposing solutions to complex environmental problems.
At the Northern Area I Minnesota Envirothon, Tri-County students delivered an outstanding performance. The team of Jaxon Bring, Logan Folland, Eli Hartmann, Jaxon Melcher, and Scoute Spilde earned first place overall, demonstrating strong knowledge and teamwork across all categories of the competition. This group will advance to the Minnesota State Envirothon at the Oliver Kelley Farm in Elk River on May 18th.

In addition to this achievement, another Tri-County team—Alysha Bothum, Dannica Erickson, Aleigha Lefrooth, and Annika Nygaard—received special recognition for their communication skills. They were awarded plaques for the Most Outstanding Oral Presentation, marking a first for Tri-County students in this category. Their success highlights not only scientific understanding but also the ability to clearly present innovative environmental solutions.

Together, these accomplishments showcase the students’ dedication to environmental stewardship.
