We would like to give big thanks to Cleveland Fire for inviting us over to participate in a controlled burn training exercise this morning. Trainings of this nature are essential and unfortunately, do not occur as often as we would like. We couldn't have asked for a better day to do so either!

Last night for our monthly training, we were able to use Safety and Security Consultation Specialists, LLC.'s VEIS simulator.
Vent-Enter-Isolate-Search (VEIS) is a high-risk, high-reward, fast-paced fire service rescue tactic. It involves quickly venting a window, entering a room from the outside, isolating it by closing the interior door to halt fire flow, and searching for victims before exiting. This method is commonly used to rescue victims from bedrooms, especially when conventional entries are blocked.
Thank you SASCS for providing this prop to get some great training in! We highly recommend to other departments, if you havent got the chance to do this class, do it! It is well worth it.

🌩It's that time of the year again.
Be weather aware this afternoon/evening!🌩

TORNADO WATCH UNTIL 10:00PM…

A Tornado Watch is now in effect for parts of south central and southeastern Minnesota, far northern Iowa, and into Wisconsin.

Storms are expected to develop quickly this afternoon and evening. Conditions are favorable for severe storms, including the potential for a few tornadoes, some of which could be strong. Large hail, including some very large hail, and damaging wind gusts will also be possible.

This is a situation where storms may start out more isolated, which increases the risk for tornadoes early on. As we move later into the evening, storms may begin to cluster. At that point, the threat may shift more toward wind, while the hail risk continues.

Bottom line… this is a day to stay weather aware. Make sure you have a way to get warnings, know where you would go if a warning is issued, and be ready to act quickly if storms approach.

Stay with me and the KEYC First Alert Weather Team for updates as things start to develop.

Is a fire hydrant positioned close to your house? If yes, is the area around it cleared of snow, ice, or debris within a 3ft x 3ft space? Given the time-sensitive nature of fire emergencies, maintaining unobstructed access to fire hydrants is paramount. By dedicating a few minutes to clear around the fire hydrant, you could play a critical role in safeguarding lives, including your own and those of your neighbors.

As the temperature drops significantly starting tomorrow and continuing into Saturday, we would like to take a moment to remind you of essential safety precautions when using space heaters. Space heaters can be great for keeping warm, but they were linked to roughly 21,000-25,000 residential fires just last year in the United States. Also, Please review the attached safety flyer, which includes crucial information on carbon monoxide safety. It is vital to be aware of the risks associated with CO, a toxic gas that claims 400-500 lives annually and results in over 100,000 emergency room visits each year.
