Katonah Village Improvement Society - KVIS

Katonah Village Improvement Society - KVIS KVIS The idea of forming a Village Improvement Society was first brought up at the annual meeting of the Bedford Farmers' Club in 1878 by Henry E. Pellew. Mr.

The group was organized as the Katonah Village Improvement Association and Mr. Pellew was elected its first president at the first meeting, Oc tober 21, that same year. The purposes of the association were to improve the sanitation, safety and "sightliness" of the village, and to advance the cultural life. Pellew was assisted by five vice-presidents and an executive committee of fifteen, out of a

total membership of thirty-nine. The Society was incorporated under its present name in 1886. In 1880 a reading room, forerunner of the Library, was opened in space rented in a private dwelling. Various village organizations soon began to use it for meetings. After the move to the new village site, one of the chief concerns of the Society, besides promoting cultural activities such as library facilities, concerts, lectures, exhibitions and book fairs, was for many years the upkeep of the boulevarding on Bedford Road, on The Parkway and near the railroad depot, all on lands owned by the Katonah Land Company. The Town of Bedford took over maintenance in 1958, when it acquired these lands. The Society sponsors the Library, however the two entities having been legally separated in 1952. In 1954 the Society fathered a second organization, the Katonah Gallery, now the Katonah Museum of Art, which was chartered as an independent corporation in 1956. Other KVIS activities include support of the Community Center, building the town pavillion, providing benches, and building and maintaining a community event board, publishing Katonah: The History of a New York Village and its People (McNaughton & Gunn, Inc., 1996) and a Katonah Village Walking Tour, and organizing annual events including a Wine Tasting, Spring Cleanup, Plant Sale, Town Forum, and Halloween Festivities on the Bedford Road Boulevards. KVIS Executive Committee meetings are held at the Library the fourth Monday of each month, except for a summer recess; with the annual meeting of all members in January.

Please join the Katonah Village Improvement Society for our annual Wine Tasting, SATURDAY, 2/28/26, 7:00-10:00pm at the Katonah Village Library

Together we will gather with friends and neighbors as we raise a glass in celebration of the 250th anniversary of our country's signing of the Declaration of Independence 🇺🇸

This year’s curated selection of wine spans from 1776 to 2026! From Bordeaux and Port, through Prohibition and Repeal, to modern-day American organic wines. In a nod to favorite beverages of 1776, there will also be a selection of tavern-worthy ciders and craft beers.

ENJOY:
-- Sumptuous Savories & Sweets
-- Wines from Around the World
-- Live Music
-- Revolutionary-themed Photo Booth

We are proud to have sponsored KVIS’s 2025 Katonah Road Race. Few things capture the spirit of community like families running together for a greater cause. Our CEO Alan Bazaar took this to heart and ran alongside his daughter Clara on the big day.

Thank you to KVIS, the volunteers, and every runner for making this a meaningful day for Katonah.

Dear Katonah friends,
Unfortunately, the weather isn’t on our side—due to rain in the forecast, we’ll be cancelling this year’s Katonah Community Picnic.

We’re so grateful for all the excitement and support, and while we’re disappointed to miss out on the fun this time, we’re already looking ahead to more great community events coming soon.

🎃Halloween Parade is scheduled for Sunday, October 26.

Thank you for your understanding, and for always showing up to make Katonah such a special place to live. 💛

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Michael “Mike” Berardino, a beloved member of the Katonah community, on August 3 at the age of 73.

Mike was a devoted, longtime member of the KVIS board, a driving force behind the K5K, and the embodiment of the true spirit of Katonah. He was a steadfast friend, a generous neighbor, and a pillar of our community whose warmth and dedication touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held at Clark’s Funeral Home on Friday, August 8, from 2:00–5:00 PM and 7:00–9:00 PM.
Funeral Mass will take place at St. Mary’s Church on Saturday, August 9, at 10:00 AM

Mike’s spirit will always be part of Katonah. ❤️
