Join us Tuesday, February 25, from 2 to 4 pm, for the Cinco Craft Club. Whatever experience level you are at - from beginner to advanced - anyone who enjoys any type of crafting is welcome to attend. These meetings are drop-in events where those attending bring their projects and their own crafting supplies. While you work on your project, you may share tips, get ideas and inspiration, and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow craft enthusiasts. We hope these meetings will allow you to chat and network with other crafters who enjoy art or needlework.

Join us each week for our children's story times! Pajama Night Story Time (Tuesdays at 6 pm) is for families with children of all ages. Family Story Time (Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:15 and 11:30 am) is also for families with children of all ages. Mother Goose Time (Tuesdays at 10:15 am) is for pre-walking infants and their caregivers.

Join us for a Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday, February 8, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.

Dancing lions from the Katy Kung Fu Lion Dance Team (USA Shaolin Xiu Culture Center) will perform in the lobby of the library at 10:30 am. The dancing lions have been a very popular part of the celebration for many years.

In addition to the performance, the dancers will explain the traditions and significance of the lion dance for the peoples of the Asian communities.
Musicians from the North American Youth Chinese Orchestra will perform a variety of traditional Chinese musical pieces on the violin and flute, as well as on Chinese instruments such as the p**a, guzheng, and zhong ruan.

Visitors will also have an opportunity to learn about the art of Chinese calligraphy. A station will be set up in the lobby, where volunteers from the T.E. Harman Center in Sugar Land will demonstrate the art of calligraphy by writing names in Chinese.

This event was made possible by the Friends of the Cinco Ranch Branch Library.

Free Income-Tax Help at FBCL

February 1 - April 15, 2025

Fort Bend County Libraries will again host representatives from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), who will provide free income-tax-preparation assistance for low-income taxpayers at several locations in the Fort Bend County library system from February 1 through April 15.

Income-tax forms are not available at the libraries, but the libraries’ computers and printers can be used to download and print out the forms from the IRS website during regular library hours. A library card (which is free) is needed to use the printers, and the cost to print is 10¢ per black-and-white page.

The following information should be brought to the session if possible: a photo ID; Social Security card(s) for self, spouse, and all dependents; last year’s tax return; W-2, 1099s, and any other compensation received in 2024; unemployment compensation statements; and any other documents that are necessary to complete your return.

The income-tax-preparation assistance is free and open to the public.

Happy Birthday, Harry Potter!! July 31 is the birthday of one of the greatest and most beloved characters in children’s literature. Even after twenty years, the Harry Potter series is still inspiring many people.

May this day remind us to celebrate freedom and inspire us to continue the fight for racial equality. All Fort Bend County Libraries will be CLOSED on Wednesday, June 19, for Juneteenth. Regular hours will resume on Thursday, June 20.

The YA/Adult Summer Reading Challenge is free to high school students going into high school ninth through twelfth (grades 9-12) and adults. Preregistration will open May 20, 2024. Online registration opens on Monday, May 27. From May 27 through August 31, participants may log minutes spent reading. They will receive a reward after completing 1,000 minutes of reading (while supplies last). Join us every Wednesday and Thursday for Story times with our lovely staff. We have two performances for both days at 10:15 am -10:45 am and 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.

Join us on Saturday, March 2, from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm, for Chess Day at Cinco Ranch. Players of all ages and skill levels – from beginners to advanced – are invited to practice their strategies while playing against others in a relaxed, stress-free environment. Learn a new chess move (or two) during this come-and-go activity. A limited number of chess sets will be provided, but players are welcome to bring their own sets as well. No prior registration is required. Materials for this program are made possible by the Friends of Cinco Ranch Branch Library.
