Happy New Year!

The new precinct boundaries take effect today. The boundaries changed as a result of the redistricting approved by Fort Bend County Commissioners Court. Our area has been “rebranded” Precinct One. Constable Chad Norvell remains the Constable and Commissioner Vincent Morales is now the County Commissioner for our service area. Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 - Judge Kelly Crow also stays as our JP along with Judge Mary Ward.

Have a great day!

Unincorporated Fort Bend County

Happy New Year’s Eve! As you prepare for the big night, please ensure you’ve planned for a ride if you plan to drink. We want to see you in 2022.

If you’re staying home to celebrate and fireworks are on the agenda, please clean up your mess and enjoy them at a reasonable hour. 77% of Fort Bend County is unincorporated and fireworks are legal in unincorporated areas of Texas. Please don’t call Dispatch and vent to our awesome Dispatchers. Additionally, ensure you truly understand if you live within a city or not. For example, most with a Katy address do not live inside the city of Katy. We’ve attached a map of Fort Bend County. The darkened areas are cities. Everything that is yellow within FBC is the unincorporated area.

Stay safe and have a great 2022!

Taking your Christmas tree down? Take advantage of this warm weather and run it down to the beach! Help them rebuild their dunes.

Just a reminder that we need your real, unadorned Christmas trees when you are done with them! We place them at the base of where our dunes used to be. This helps them rebuild.
Please drop them at the main entrance to Surfside.

Construction thefts are a common occurrence. If you live in an area where new homes are being built, please call it in if you see someone loading a truck full of wood like this. Home builders know how much lumber they need and don’t accidentally order a truckload too much. Thanks to the alert homeowner for calling it in and to Fulshear PD for catching them.

“It was Christmas morning and not a thief was stirring.

Then out of nowhere a truck was roaring.

Loaded with wood and headed out of the hood.

Then without warning PD appeared, trapping the crooks, getting caught which they had feared.

Arrested for theft on Christmas Day without presents to share or sell on EBay. “

Maybe crooks don’t think we work during the holidays. For the second day in a row, suspects were captured for stealing wood at a construction site. This time an alert citizen noticed the theft in progress and called it in. Officers searched the area and eventually found them making their escape down FM 1093. The suspects were arrested without further incident. #naughtylist

The kids are finally out for Christmas! Keep an eye out for the Grinch, especially in Pecan Grove. That’s where Deputy Trevino spotted him. Also watch for slow rolling vehicles in your neighborhood or ones that appear to be following the delivery trucks. The porch pirates are looking for your Christmas gifts. PLEASE report suspicious vehicles to Dispatch at 281-341-4665.

Have a great weekend.

If you are participating in a Turkey Trot or other early morning event, see below and plan accordingly. Have a Happy Thanksgiving with your families.

Via Harris County Flood Control Meteorologist Jeff Lindner:

Rain and storms likely along and ahead of a cold front Thursday morning.

While the frontal timing looks similar, scattered showers and storms will begin to developed ahead of the front as early as 6-7am over portions of the area.

Any morning plans should expect wet weather… brief heavy rains, gusty winds, and lightning all possible.

Recently, the City of Fulshear rescinded its golf cart/off-highway ordinance to align with the State of Texas (HB 1548) law. The City of Fulshear will no longer be conducting golf cart/off-highway inspections or requiring golf cart/off-highway permits.

However, golf carts/off-highway vehicles need to have a golf cart/off-highway license plate to operate on roads. Golf carts and off-highway vehicles must display the appropriate license plate to legally operate on the roadway. The fee for the plate is $10, and the plate does not expire.

You may obtain a golf cart/off-highway license plate from your county tax assessor-collector’s office.

These recent changes in Texas law now allow golf carts and most off-highway vehicles to be operated on public roadways. However, their operation is restricted to certain conditions, and there are certain stipulations that must be met in order to legally do so.

For the purposes of this advisory, an “off-highway vehicle” includes ATVs, ROVs, UTV‘s, and sand rails. The following are the conditions were golf carts and off-highway vehicles may be operated, and their requirements.

CONDITIONS:

A person may operate a golf cart or off-highway vehicle in:

A county or municipality approved master plan community containing a set of HOA/POA rules or restrictive covenant‘s; or

A public or private beach approved for vehicle or travel; or

On a road with a posted speed limit of not more than 35 mph, during the daytime and not more than two miles from the location where it is usually parked for transportation to and from a golf course.

REQUIREMENTS:

Golf carts and off-highway vehicles must display the appropriate license plate to legally operate on the roadway. The fee for the plate is $10, and the plate does not expire.

Golf carts and off highway vehicles traveling at the speed of not more than 25 mph are also required to display slow moving vehicle emblem.

All traffic laws pertaining to the movement and operation of regular motor vehicles apply and must be obeyed while operating a golf cart or off-highway vehicle in a public roadway.

The Texas Attorney General’s office has stated (No. KP-0364) that the requirement to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle on a public roadway applies to the operation of golf carts and off-highway vehicles while on a public road. Yes, an operator of a golf cart or off-highway vehicle must possess a valid driver’s license (or learners permit with adult present) to drive on a public roadway.
