The City of Katy Fussell Senior Center honored longtime Katy Heritage Society founding member and dedicated board member Marilyn Frishman on Monday as the 2025-26 Senior Volunteer of the Year. Marilyn’s decades of service, leadership, and commitment to preserving Katy’s history have made a lasting impact on our community.

The celebration included remarks from District 132 State Representative Mike Schofield and was followed by a proclamation presented during the Katy City Council meeting in recognition of her extraordinary contributions.

Marilyn has been an integral part of the Katy Heritage Society since its founding in 1979, serving in numerous leadership roles and helping preserve the stories, landmarks, and traditions that make Katy unique. Her passion for our community, generous spirit, and tireless volunteerism continue to inspire all who know her.

Congratulations, Marilyn, on this well-deserved honor. The Katy Heritage Society is proud to celebrate your legacy of service and the countless ways you have enriched our community. ❤️

🚂❤️ A Heartfelt Thank You to The Dryer

The Katy Heritage Society would like to extend our sincere gratitude to The Dryer and everyone who has supported its mission through train rides and community events.

Recently, The Dryer presented the Katy Heritage Society with a donation of more than $600, generated through a remarkable initiative that donates $1 from every train ride back to our nonprofit organization. This contribution is a wonderful example of how preserving history and creating new memories can work hand in hand.

These funds will be directed toward the restoration of the Humble Mess Hall, an important preservation project that holds special meaning for our organization. The restoration will serve as a tribute to our dear friend and longtime board member, Linda Mikeska, whose passion for local history helped shape many of the preservation efforts we enjoy today. Linda had a special appreciation for the Katy Gas Plant and was a tireless advocate for preserving the stories, places, and people that make Katy unique.

The Historic Cardiff Rice Dryer has become more than a landmark—it is a place where families gather, children experience history firsthand, and our community connects with its roots. Through initiatives like the train rides, visitors are not only creating lasting memories but also directly supporting the preservation of Katy’s historic treasures.

Thank you to The Dryer, its volunteers, supporters, and every passenger who has purchased a train ticket. Your support helps ensure that Katy’s history continues to be preserved, shared, and celebrated for generations to come.
