Harris County Fire Marshal

Some good information from our neighbors at the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Turkey fryers can easily overheat and start a fire. Check the temperature often with a cooking thermometer so the oil won’t overheat. Check out this short video with more fire safety tips for turkey frying. Be fire-safe this #Thanksgiving. Special shout out to Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner's Office and H-E-B for helping with the turkey frying demo.

Good Morning City of Katy ☀️
Katy Fire Department is excited to launch our 2020 Santa Tour Schedule. 🎅
* Santa Tours will begin on Monday November 30th and go through Dec 16th
* Santa & his Elves leave the North Pole at 6:30p
* Listen for the "sleigh bells" as Santa enters your street
* Visit our FB page daily for a detailed map of Santa's route for that night.
* Santa's sleigh will be followed by helper Elves in a marked KFD truck stopping to collect your generous donations of non-perishable canned goods to deliver to the local Katy Food Pantry and unwrapped toys for the Lions Club and Toys-for-Tots Programs.
DUE TO COVID-19, WE ARE ASKING THIS YEAR THAT YOU PLEASE PLACE YOUR DONATIONS IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK YOURSELF IN ORDER TO LIMIT CONTACT WITH OUR ELVES, AND PLEASE PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING WHILE WAITING FOR SANTA TO DRIVE DOWN YOUR STREET!! THANK YOU!
Can't wait to see you all this Holiday Season!!!

Give Hope. ❣️ Give Life. ❣️
In this time of need, every little bit counts. Help save a life next Wednesday by donating blood at the Senior Center. Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center has moved to “Appointments Preferred” instead of “Appointments Required” on all mobile blood drives! We will be offering FREE COVID-19 ANTIBODY TESTING to all successful donors! (This test is authorized by the FDA only for detecting the presence of antibodies against SARS-Co V-2 and is not intended for diagnosis of Covid-19!)
Come be a hero of the Katy Community!

Traffic switch tomorrow. Please plan accordingly.

CANE ISLAND TRAFFIC SWITCH - There will be a large traffic switch tomorrow morning (Wednesday, Oct. 14th) at the intersection of Cane Island Parkway and the I-10 frontage road. Please allow extra time as there will be law enforcement on site to help direct traffic.

Contractors have made modifications to the northbound traffic on Cane Island, which starting tomorrow, will be diverted via a temporary connection to two new short lanes. The inside lane will allow traffic to proceed straight ahead over the bridge, and the outside lane will allow traffic to turn right on to the I-10 frontage road.

Southbound traffic coming from the bridge over I-10 will have changes also. Vehicles will now have two lanes to travel - an inside lane for left turns only on to the I-10 frontage road and the outside lane for thru traffic going down towards FM 1463.

Thank you for your patience as the law enforcement and construction crews work together to safely get traffic switched over to these new lanes for all our drivers. Signal adjustments will also be underway so please pay extra attention to the direction of law enforcement on site.

On this sacred day, we honor the innocent lives lost and recognize the courage of those who made the ultimate sacrifice and risked their lives to save others 19 years ago. Today, at the 9/11 Memorial, we will hear the names of the 2,983 men, women and children killed as a result of the terrorist events of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. We will stand in solidarity with their families and loved ones as we honor the life of every victim and fulfill our sacred promise to remember always.

With hurricane season in full swing; Katy Fire Department "B" Shift crew is at Typhoon Texas this morning brushing up on their Swift-water Rescue Skills.

🚨 If you're driving by today, don't be alarmed! #SwiftWaterTraining in progress 🌊 - The Katy Fire Department with Official - City of Katy members are training on swift-water awareness at Typhoon Texas today!

Participants learn personal protective and team equipment, basic shore-based rescue techniques, training with their rescue boat, and how to recognize the hazards and water conditions associated with a swift water incident. We love being a resource as a training facility for our local first responders.

Swift water is defined by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) as water moving at a rate that exceeds one knot or approximately 1.15 miles per hour.
