The City of Katy Water Department will be conducting hydrant flushing throughout the City on Thursday, September 3rd, and Friday, September 4th.

It’s important to note that residents in the immediate vicinity of hydrant flushing may experience temporary discoloration of their water. This discoloration is harmless and does not affect water safety. However, residents are advised to check the water clarity before doing laundry, as staining may occur.

If you notice discoloration in your water after hydrant flushing in your neighborhood, you can clear the pipes in your home by running all interior and exterior water faucets for a few minutes.

Although the City is currently under Stage 1 water conservation measures and following drought contingency plans, hydrant flushing remains necessary to maintain water quality and compliance. If there are any questions or concerns, please contact the City of Katy Public Works office at (281) 391-4820 or [email protected].

💧 STAGE 1 WATER CONSERVATION REMINDER

Water pumpage continues to rise as high temperatures persist across our area. The City of Katy is urging residents, businesses, and HOAs to reduce water use and help prevent the need to enter Stage 2 Mandatory Water Restrictions.

Please do your part:

• Limit outdoor watering and irrigation
• Water only before 8 a.m. or after 8 p.m.
• Check irrigation systems, faucets, hoses, and toilets for leaks
• Contact your HOA if you notice irrigation leaks in common areas or elsewhere in your neighborhood
• Postpone pressure washing and washing vehicles at home
• Postpone draining and refilling swimming pools
• Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads
Reducing outdoor irrigation can make the greatest immediate impact. Every effort matters as we work together to lower demand on Katy’s water system.

💧 Not sure if you're on the City of Katy water system? Check your address at www.cityofkaty.com/maps.

For more information, contact the City of Katy Public Works Department during business hours (7 a.m.–4 p.m.) at 281-391-4820 or email [email protected].

Please conserve today so we can stay out of Stage 2.

💧 STAGE 1 WATER CONSERVATION IS IN EFFECT IN KATY

The City of Katy has activated Stage 1 of our Water Conservation Plan due to a continued rise in water pumpage and ongoing high heat in our area. This means we are asking residents to voluntarily reduce water use:

• Irrigate landscaping only between 12–8 AM and 8 PM–midnight.
• Hold off on draining and refilling swimming pools.
• Report leaks and dripping sprinkler heads promptly.
• Skip non-essential water use like pressure washing and car washing.

There’s no mandatory irrigation schedule yet—but conserving now helps us avoid moving to stricter, mandatory stages later.

🗑️ Garbage Rate Update – Effective September 1, 2026

As the City of Katy continues its garbage services with Texas Pride Disposal, residential garbage rates will increase by $0.81/month, effective September 1, 2026.

This annual Consumer Price Index adjustment helps cover rising fuel and labor costs. Despite the increase, the City is proud to continue offering garbage rates that remain lower than the rates residents paid at the end of 2020 under our former provider.

Thank you, Pride Disposal, for helping keep Katy clean! Questions? Email [email protected] for assistance.
