Social Connections mission is to produce long lasting behavior change, by incorporating meaningful learning experiences. Behavioral artistry is a skill to be practiced and learned through intensive training by those best in the art. Social Connections model focuses on having highly skilled Behavior Analysts provide direct training to our staff in a way that they can follow the overall client goals

, while adjusting teaching strategies in the moment to meet the clients needs. We believe in a progressive approach of ABA that is structured, but flexible in its treatment application and promotes the skill of behavioral artistry. By allowing flexibility for our staff, our clients can move through targets in a manner that is based on their pace of learning rather than a traditional method of following strict protocols that may limit learning that is commonly implemented across other approaches. Our therapy goals evolve and change daily based on the clients responses. We avoid having the same exact targets and goals be practiced for excessive periods of time. We believe in spending time teaching, and observing our learners in the moment to make decisions to help our learners be successful on their next opportunity rather than spending time excessively collecting data to show the progress that our clients are making. Although data is important, it should not interfere with time that can be utilized for teaching opportunities. We want our staff to be more focused on their client and not so concerned with following a step by step therapy protocol on an Ipad. We feel that by addressing core deficits associated with our clients' diagnosis that are functional and practical based on each individual's needs and desires is for the greater good. When addressing such needs our clients can make informed decisions and live practical and meaningful lives. Our approach is backed by the latest research in the field of ABA. Our directors have extensive training and collaboration with Autism Partnership and Autism Partnership Foundation, one of the leading providers and research agencies in the world.

ERIC - EJ1060650 - What Is the Proof? A Methodological Review of Studies That Have Utilized Social Stories, Education and Training in Autism and Developmental Disabilities, 2015-Jun

Please remember to evaluate evidence before implementing or promoting interventions. Treatment time is critical and should be used to provide effective treatment strategies. Social Stories are not an effective way to teach Social Skills. At Social Connections we utilize Teaching Interactions. Teaching Interactions promote generalization and perspective taking for novel situations. Discrimination Training is a critical component for transfering skills that are learned in Social Skills Groups to the natural environment and across contexts. Social Connections networks with leaders in the field of Social Skills Training. Understanding nonverbal, and verbal social cues are critical for behavior change to generalize to other environments. This is why social skills should be intensively taught through teaching interactions, and discrimination training procedures.

Social stories are a commonly empirically evaluated and implemented procedure to increase pro-social behaviors and decrease aberrant behaviors for individuals diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. Despite their widespread use there have been questions raised to the soundness of the research me...

SCLC will continue to monitor the COVID-19 precautiousions. This appears to change from day to day. In the event that things escalate potential closures may occur. In the meantime sanitary measures are put in place and the following travel policy has been instated:
Parents/Guardians,

Any client who requested removal from therapy for traveling purposes will not be allowed to resume therapy for 14 days post returning to Katy Texas unless documentation can be provided showing that travel was cancelled.
This includes:
-Airline cancellations
-Hotel cancellations

If you can provide documentation of a negative COVID-19 test, we can evaluate returning earlier than the 14-day recommendation by the CDC.
If you are unable to provide this documentation, we understand your frustrations, but we cannot risk the safety and protection of our most vulnerable clients and staff.

Thank you for understanding!

PSA: COVID-19 in Texas – March 7, 2020

The Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting three additional travel-related cases of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, bringing the state total to eight. These cases are among the same group that traveled overseas together and were being monitored by public health because of a possible exposure to COVID-19.
DSHS will update the state case count each day by 10 a.m. Central Time.

Some important tips to help keep coronavirus at bay: regularly washing hands, staying home if you feel sick and covering your mouth and nose when you sneeze. The virus is spread in large droplets by coughing and sneezing. This means that the air will not infect you! BUT all the surfaces where these droplets land are infectious for about a week on average - everything that is associated with infected people will be contaminated and potentially infectious. The virus is on surfaces and you will not be infected unless your unprotected face is directly coughed or sneezed upon.

This virus only has cell receptors for lung cells (it only infects your lungs) The only way for the virus to infect you is through your nose or mouth via your hands or an infected cough or sneeze onto or into your nose or mouth.

While this is a serious public health threat, county residents should go about their daily lives but take certain precautions:
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Cover your coughs and sneezes. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands. Remember to wash your hands after coughing or sneezing.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe

If you feel you are experiencing coronavirus symptoms (fever 100.4) cough and shortness of breath) please contact your local health department.
