Don't forget to join us for this jolly event tonight, December 4th from 6PM to 8PM at City Hall! The City of Katy's official Christmas Tree will be lit for the first time, so cruise by City Hall to wave to Santa and friends as you take in the lights and enjoy the sounds of Christmas provided by Lone Star Symphonic Band.

Kids can bring their Christmas Wish List to mail, and we'll be collecting NEW, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. Santa will also be passing out goodie bags to each passing vehicle, while supplies last.

See map below for route details. Can't wait to see you all tonight!

While we aren't having our traditional Community Campout this year at VFW Park, we encourage your family to plan an outdoor (or indoor) camping experience at home! Set-up a tent in your backyard or living room. Don't have a tent? No problem! Use blankets, pillows & cushions to set up a fort or cozy corner.

Activity ideas: Sing campfire songs, watch a camp-themed movie, play charades or a card game. Make s'mores over the grill or in the oven, and even build a campfire with lights and construction paper. Have some added fun and decorate your campsite.

We want to see all of your great campsites and activities, so post your pictures on our page and share with your family and friends!

We regret to inform you that this year’s annual Howl-o-ween event has been canceled.

Katy Rice Festival

Katy Rice Festival

This year, the Katy Rice Festival celebrates 40 years! Our annual festival is a celebration of Katy's heritage, legacy, traditions and family – it is still dedicated to the men and women of Katy who dared to dream dreams and to try the untried. We thank the festival’s original founders:

John G. Morrison, Mayor of the City of Katy (1979-1983), Lyn Frese, Brad Hays, Sharron Janota & Margaret Burke of the Westside Art Guild, Sam Scardino, Lynn Cardiff and Alice Weinman of the Greater Katy Area Chamber of Commerce.

From our humble beginnings to today, the Katy Rice Festival pays tribute to those before us who laid the foundation of our home. May we never forget the roots of our past and continue the tradition of celebrating our heritage!

Parents, we understand the need for your teens and young adults to be social and connect with friends during this COVID-19 pandemic. We encourage you to talk with your family about the importance of wearing a face covering, social distancing and washing hands frequently; but most importantly, make sure they understand that COVID-19 may be spread by people who do not have symptoms. Remember that they bring home what they are exposed to, thus exposing you and all your points of contact.

Create a safe bubble – your family can still be social while social distancing. Limit the households you maintain contact with and make sure they have not recently been sick before you gather. These actions can help keep them from getting sick and help stop the spread of COVID-19.

-----

Governor Greg Abbott has issued Executive Order 29 requiring all Texans to wear a face covering over the nose and mouth in public spaces in counties with 20 or more positive COVID-19 cases. This includes Fort Bend, Harris and Waller County.

The Governor also issued a Proclamation giving mayors and county judges the ability to impose restrictions on some outdoor gatherings of over 10.

These statewide changes will go into effective at 12:01 p.m. on July 3, 2020. To view the video or order, visit https://bit.ly/2VGWEpd.

This Fourth of July share your red, white, and blue spirit but not the coronavirus. Coronavirus is spreading faster in Texas and it can easily spread in family or community gatherings.

For that reason, our annual fireworks display will be drive-in style and we are asking participants to follow these guidelines for the health and safety of all:

• Watch the fireworks from the comfort and safety of your vehicle;
• Keep one family per vehicle and do not gather with those outside of your household;
• If you must exit your vehicle wear a face covering and maintain 6-foot social distance from those not in your group; and
• Please be patient with officers and traffic control leaving the display.

The health and safety of our community and your families is vital to us and we want to increase happiness and not case counts. We are counting on you to do your part and to care for one another as we celebrate our independence.
