The grassfire began near Van Zandt County Road 3406 and Highway 64. The Texas Department of Public Safety has initiated a closure of Highway 64. They noted that heavy smoke is blocking neighboring adjacent county roads and ask that you do not drive into the area.

[Fri. 8/14 3:30PM]: An elevated fire threat is ongoing this afternoon, with widespread low humidity and breezy winds. Highs regionwide will top out at or around 100 degrees. Remember to secure tow chains and NEVER toss a lit cigarette! 🔥

Porfavor de correr la voz con sus familiares y amigos/vecinos de no quemar para que no se metan en problemas. Esperemos que la condiciones se mejoren para que ya puedan empezar a quemar.

We are now under a burn ban in Kaufman County!

Estamos en una prohibicion de quemaduras al aire libre 🔥

A Burn ban is now in effect for Kaufman County for a period of 90 days.

You cannot activate an open burn permit during a burn ban. Outdoor burning is prohibited at this time.
