🔍 Assign a dedicated Water Watcher - someone who is not distracted by devices, conversations, or alcohol
📱 Keep a phone nearby and know how to call for help in an emergency

Burn Ban is in Effect for Kaufman County.

Why?
Dry conditions can cause fires to spread quickly and become difficult to control. Burn bans help reduce the risk of wildfires and protect our families, homes, property, and our first responders.

Please DO NOT burn brush, leaves, yard waste, trash or other materials in an open fire.

Thank you.

A Burn ban is now in effect for Kaufman County for a period of 90 days.

You cannot activate an open burn permit during a burn ban. Outdoor burning is prohibited at this time.

Kaufman County is inviting residents to participate in an upcoming public meeting as part of the update to the Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The Hazard Mitigation Plan helps identify the natural hazards that affect our communities, such as flooding, severe storms, tornadoes, winter weather, drought, and wildfires. The plan also identifies projects and strategies that can help reduce future disaster impacts and improve community resilience.

Public Participation is an important part of this process. We want to hear directly from residents about the hazards and concerns they experience in their communities. Your input helps us better understand local needs, identify problem areas, and develop mitigation actions that can help protect lives, property, and infrastructure.

With the temperature rise, it's important to know where you can go to cool down safely.

If your home is too hot or you don't have reliable air conditioning, consider visiting a public facility during its regular business hours. Places such as libraries, community centers, recreation centers, shopping malls, senior centers, and other public buildings can provide a cool, air-conditioned environment to help you stay safe from the heat.

While you're there:
• Drink plenty of water.
• Take breaks from the sun.
• Check on older adults, young children, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illness.
• Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.

Heat-related illnesses can happen quickly. Knowing where to go to cool off can make all the difference.
