Summer energy use and higher wholesale power costs can impact your electric bill. If your bill is higher than expected, these resources can help you better understand your bill and usage.

- Check your Energy kWh Charge: This line item shows how many kWh of electricity you used. Increased air conditioning and dehumidifier run time, caused by hot, humid weather, can substantially increase summer energy use.

Downed power lines are always dangerous.

Following this morning’s storms, we want to remind everyone to always assume a downed power line is energized. Stay at least 35 feet away from the line and anything it may be touching, including trees, fences, vehicles, or standing water.

Never attempt to move a downed line or drive over it. If you see a downed power line, keep your distance and report it immediately.

Understanding your electric bill: What is the PCA?
You may notice that the Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) on your electric bill changes from month to month. Unlike your regular per-kWh energy charge, which is set through the regulated rate process, the PCA is not a fixed rate. It reflects changes in the cost of purchasing wholesale power and can fluctuate based on seasonal energy prices, customer demand, and other factors.

Why can the PCA be higher in summer?
Hot weather increases electricity demand across the region, which can drive up wholesale power costs. At the same time, many homes and businesses use more electricity for cooling - meaning you may be using more energy when wholesale power costs are also higher.

Safety FIRST in everything we do.

Recently, members of the KU team joined City of Kaukauna Government DPW and City of Kaukauna Fire Department for Excavation & Trenching Safety Training through Municipal Electric Utilities of Wisconsin (MEUW).

The hands-on training covered the differences between excavations and trenches, safe digging regulations, and the hazards crews need to recognize and prepare for on the job.

Ongoing training like this helps keep safety top of mind.
