Since our Board has repeatedly criticized the Supervisor, alleging that he uses Township funds without Board approval, we submit the following FOIA request relating to the employment of Trustee Charles Campbell as Office Assistant. Note that the request includes ANY minutes or supporting materials indicating that the Board authorized Charles Campbell to hold both positions, and NONE of the included documents include resolutions, minutes, or other approvals.

According to MCL 15.182, Michigan law prohibits a public officer or employee from simultaneously holding two or more incompatible public offices. Two offices are considered incompatible if one is subordinate to or supervises the other, or if holding both results in a breach of public duty (e.g., when a board member must vote on a budget, contract, or supervision that affects their own secondary job). Trustee and Office Assistant are not automatically incompatible, but Board Approval is generally required to establish the lack of conflict.
MCL 41.95-96 indicates that a township board has the authority to assign additional non-statutory duties to an elected official and authorize reasonable compensation for those extra services. However, this requires official board action/approval rather than a board member unilaterally taking on or getting paid for another internal role.

This is the FOIA request relating to Fahey Schultz Burzych & Rhodes, PLC (Trent Cunningham's firm). Note that these invoices are from January 2026 through the end of September. Year-to-date (beyond the current fiscal year) was, as of Sept. 30, $103,301.50.

We believe in transparency and accountability. Many of us (including you, the taxpayer) have expressed concerns over the Legal Spending in our Township, and who is responsible.

Therefore we submit to you the following FOIA request for scrutiny. This file contains all invoices for Foster, Swift, Collins, & Smith (our former attorney, Mike Homier) from December 2024 (when the current Board took their positions), through present day.

At the bottom of the first page, we see that these invoices totaled $38,105.78. There are several general invoices, as well as itemized receipts for particular legal issues or correspondence.

MY HEART IS IN KAWKAWLIN TOWNSHIP — NOT PERSONAL GAIN! 🇺🇸

Let me make one thing perfectly clear. I have NOTHING to gain, and I want NO special favors from Kawkawlin Township. I am not running for personal benefit, special treatment, or to advance anyone’s private agenda.

I simply want to see Kawkawlin Township return to the community I grew up knowing and loving. A township where neighbors looked out for neighbors, people took pride in their community, and local government worked FOR the residents, not the other way around.

My family has deep roots here. This isn’t just somewhere I moved to. This is HOME. This is where my history is, where my heart is, and where my future matters.

I’ve seen the posts circulating on the Kawkawlin Linwood community page. I believe all of these posts are spreading false information and misleading narratives meant to create fear and discourage people from supporting change.

I WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY RUMORS, PERSONAL ATTACKS, OR POLITICAL GAMES.

If someone has a legitimate question about me, my intentions, or what I stand for, ASK ME! I have nothing to hide.

I don’t want to control this township. I want to help give residents their voice back.

I want common-sense government, transparency, accountability, responsible spending, and respect for the hardworking taxpayers who call Kawkawlin Township home.

This election isn’t about what Kawkawlin Township can do for me. It’s about what I can do for Kawkawlin Township.

I’m not asking anyone to agree with me on everything. I’m asking you to look past the rumors, ask questions, think for yourself, and remember the kind of community we all deserve.

WE DON’T NEED FEAR. WE DON’T NEED DIVISION. WE NEED OUR HOMETOWN BACK!

On November 3rd, let’s choose a future built on honesty, respect, accountability, and hometown pride.

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE KAWKAWLIN TOWNSHIP BOARD:

It has become increasingly apparent that the current Board has struggled to work collaboratively, provide effective leadership, and support the community in a constructive and harmonious manner. Ongoing disputes, public accusations, and social media conflicts have done little to address the underlying issues that continue to divide the community and prevent meaningful resolution.

Those currently serving in elected positions have been given ample time to demonstrate collaboration, professionalism, accountability, integrity, and transparency. The Board has fallen short of the expectations and responsibilities entrusted to its members by the residents they were elected to represent.

Removing or ostracizing a select few while allowing others to remain would do little to address the broader concerns surrounding the Board’s ongoing dysfunction. Without meaningful change, there is a legitimate concern that the same conflicts and patterns of behavior will continue into the next term, regardless of which individuals are singled out.

Moving forward, meaningful progress will require a renewed commitment to leadership that prioritizes the community over personal interests, positions of influence, social affiliations, or other potential motivations. Kawkawlin Township deserves representatives who value cooperation, ethical conduct, open communication, fiscal responsibility, and public service.

Ultimately, the future of the township depends on electing individuals who are genuinely committed to serving the residents, working together despite differences, and creating an environment in which the small rural community can grow, thrive, and move forward constructively.

The community deserves leadership focused on solutions rather than division, service rather than self-interest, and progress rather than the continuation of past conflicts.

Clean house Kawkawlin, vote for new leaders who have a strong desire to be a united team!
