We would like to thank all the out of town companies that’s assisted us in giving our beloved Chief a proper send off today, this would not have been possible without all of you and we greatly appreciate your involvement.

The Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s office assisted us by coordinating our cover assignments to ensure the town was protected in our absence. Our cover assignments both nights who allowed us to properly honor Chief Merkel were Sea Bright Fire Rescue, Little Silver Fire Company Glendola Fire Company and Wanamassa Fire company. Traffic control was provided by Middletown Fire Departments Fire Police, Keansburg Police Department, Hazlet Police Department and Middletown Police Department.

We would also like to thank all of the visiting companies that came out as well Middletown Township Fire Department, West Keansburg, North Centerville, Hazlet Fire Company, Union Beach Fire Department, Atlantic Highlands Fire Department, Holmdel Fire Rescue and Keyport Fire Department.

We always say a Firefighter Never Dies they burn forever in the hearts of the people whose lives they touched. Chief Merkel was a pillar of the community and he will never be forgotten. Rest easy Chief, we’ll take it from here!

International Firefighters’ Day (IFFD) - May 4.

Firefighters from all over the world have one common enemy - Fire. No matter what country they come from, what uniform they wear or what language they speak, they all fight fire to protect lives and property.

Please take a moment today to pay respect to fallen and past firefighters all over the world - the ones lost in the ultimate sacrifice and those who are no longer with us.

Please also thank the firefighters who protect your communities. Wear blue and red ribbons to show your support, make them a card, give them a call or send them a message.

----------------------------------

To all firefighters, and those who support you to do your jobs,

THANK YOU for all the hours of time, commitment, training and responding any time of the day or night to protect lives and property.

THANK YOU for risking your lives to protect ours.

THANK YOU to those who are no longer with us, yet who shared so much wisdom and guidance.

THANK YOU to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

HONOUR & RESPECT for all firefighters.

On this day, and indeed every day, we are profoundly grateful to you. THANK YOU!

Continued Elevated Risk for Wildfire Spread on Tuesday...

The elevated risk for the rapid spread of wildfires will continue on Tuesday. Minimum relative humidity values across eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey will be very dry, between 15 and 25 percent.

Winds will be a bit lighter than on Monday, but northwesterly wind gusts to around 20 mph are still expected.

This combined with the low humidity, warm temperatures, and increasingly dry fuels will produce conditions favorable for wildfire spread, especially in the afternoon and early evening.

Residents are urged to exercise caution handling any potential ignition source, including machinery, ci******es, and matches.

Be sure to properly discard all smoking materials. Any dry grasses and tree litter that ignite will have the potential to spread quickly.

For more information about wildfire danger, burn restriction, and wildfire prevention and education, please visit your state forestry or environmental protection website.
