Today, our community is mourning the loss of an extraordinary firefighter whose dedication, leadership, and passion shaped generations of first responders throughout Buffalo County. He trained so many of the men and women who protect us today, leaving a legacy built on courage, service, and the countless lives made safer because of his guidance. His impact will continue to live on in every firefighter he mentored and every person they go on to help. We are holding his family, friends, and fire service brothers and sisters close in our hearts as we honor a life that truly made a difference.

Rest easy, Terry Eirich. Thank you for everything you gave to this community and for the lasting mark you leave behind.

🔥 Proud Moment for the Kearney Fire Department Auxiliary! 🔥

As President of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, I couldn’t be prouder of the amazing women I serve alongside. This week, we hosted the Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighters Association Auxiliary Conference, and it was such an honor to recognize two of our own for their incredible dedication — Phyllis Murrish for 55 years and Judy Spellman for 50 years of service to the Auxiliary. 💐👏

These ladies truly represent the heart of who we are — always showing up with care, compassion, and a can-do spirit! Our Auxiliary works hard each month providing meals during training nights, delivering birthday cookies, and stepping up with emergency meals — often donated by local restaurants or made from scratch at the station — when our firefighters and surrounding departments are out battling fires. ❤️‍🔥

We’re proud to be the largest Auxiliary group in Nebraska, but even prouder of the heart, history, and hometown spirit that make us who we are. Congratulations again to Phyllis and Judy, and thank you to every one of our Auxiliary members for the love and dedication you pour into our department. ❤️🚒
