The week of August 15th, volunteers continued work on all three homes. HVAC runs were installed in Nery’s foundation and door and window locations were marked. Jessica’s house also got a start on siding, while Steve installed backer boards inside.

On Saturday, volunteers finished the flooring, started installing doors from the warehouse, and added more lighting and fans at Cazbi's house. Outside, the crew cleared weeds around the foundation and cleaned out the garden shed. At the warehouse, Cazbi and friends painted her closet doors while other volunteers built walls for Nery’s house.

At Jessica’s house, the rain made it impossible to continue siding, so volunteers focused on cleanup and working through the puddles and standing water around the site.

We were also grateful to have volunteers from First Lutheran Church join us on Saturday. Despite the muddy conditions, they jumped in and helped wherever they were needed.

Good morning, due to all the rain and muddy conditions at the worksite, we’re going to cancel today’s volunteer work.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any indoor work ready to go, so there won’t be an alternate worksite available today.

We’re sorry for the last minute change and appreciate everyone who was planning to volunteer with us! We’ll see you at the worksite next Saturday. 🏠💙

Thank you for helping us build homes, hope and a stronger community!

After a busy morning on the job site, our volunteers enjoyed a wonderful lunch thanks to Faith United Methodist Church. The chicken tenders, fresh salads, and desserts were a thoughtful treat, and we are grateful for your kindness and support.

25 volunteers kept the momentum going on Saturday, making great progress across all three of our homes.

At Cazbi's house, volunteers prepared the front sidewalk for this week's concrete pour, installed kitchen cabinets, light fixtures and fans, tiled the bathroom floor, cleaned the floors in preparation for new flooring, and finished installing and caulking the window sills.

Jessica's house also saw plenty of progress. A huge thank you to Buffalo Roofing for shingling the roof during the week! Volunteers finished installing the blueboard, installed the Tyvek covering, taped the seams, prepared the window openings, installed roof venting, added hurricane clips in the safe room, framed several closets, and reinforced the front porch.

Work began on Nery's future home. Thanks to Cudaback Construction for digging the foundation and installing the plumbing runs, giving us a great start. Volunteers also continued preparing sidewalks in front of the new home.

We are incredibly grateful to Mead Lumber for their continued support of Kearney Area Habitat for Humanity. Not only did they donate the beautiful white cabinets for House 105, but they also presented our Kearney affiliate with a generous $1,500 donation through their Early Bird promotion. Keith and Tracy were honored to accept this gift on behalf of Habitat.

Thank you, Mead Lumber, for investing in our mission and helping local families build a place to call home.

Catching up on a few summer highlights!

The summer heat couldn't stop our volunteers from making great progress a couple weeks ago!

Along with her daughter, volunteers and friends, Cazbi painted the interior walls and ceilings of her house, while Roger began installing the lights. At Jessica's home, volunteers raised the trusses and added roof sheeting and hurricane clips. The bones of her home are coming along nicely!

After a break for the Fourth of July holiday, our Habitat volunteers were back to work on Saturday, July 11—and despite the summer heat, they made some great progress!

Ken planted grasses at the 17th Street entrance, while Nery and Carol tackled the weeds to prepare Heather's yard for more sod.

At Cazbi's home, volunteers poured and finished new sidewalks, painted the garden shed and the house peak, spread dirt around the foundation, began placing landscape timbers, and continued hanging drywall inside.

At Jessica's home, volunteers made the final preparations for Dandee Construction to pour the concrete floor, while the Dandee crew returned to cut the porch concrete that had been poured earlier for spacers.
