The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office celebrated the retirement of Lt R. S. Sell today. Lt Sell dedicated over 23 years to the citizens and visitors to Jefferson County. He began his service as a volunteer with the Reserves. After hire as a sworn member he was the valedictorian of the 119th basic class of the WV State Police Academy, a member of SWAT, performed accident reconstruction investigations, and participated in State and local youth camps. He has ensured our participation in local events has ran smoothly, such as National Night Out, Fireworks, and the Fair. Lt Sell has been a valued member of the Sheriff's Office and he will be greatly missed. We wish him and his family well as they begin their next adventure.

Immediately after the bomb threat and alleged terrorist attack at Wildwood Middle School on April 29th of this year, it was decided that the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office needed a bomb dog. Shortly after that decision was made, the local ATF Office offered a Explosive Detection K-9 and handler training to the JCSO. Deputy Aaron Hutcherson was selected to complete the 10 week, no days off, comprehensive training. On Friday, Deputy Hutcherson and K9 Rugby graduated from the ATF National Canine Division Center, Explosive Detection Canine training.
Sheriff Tom Hansen and the entire Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is happy to welcome K-9 Rugby into the JCSO family. K-9 Rugby and Deputy Hutcherson will be an integral asset of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and, when needed, available to agencies within the area. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Alcohol, To***co and Fi****ms (ATF) division of the Department of Justice for their assistance in making the goal of a Bomb Dog K-9 team for the JCSO a reality.
