After consulting with the local fire chiefs and the Police Jury President, effective today, July 27, 2026, DeSoto Parish is under a burn ban due to the extreme dry conditions and extreme heat. Once conditions improve the Police Jury and local fire chiefs will reassess and advise accordingly. Thank you and God Bless.

⚠️ BURN BAN FOR DESOTO PARISH IN EFFECT IMMEDIATELY ⚠️

Effective immediately, a burn ban is now in place. No outdoor burning is permitted until further notice.

Please do your part to keep our community safe:
🔥 Do NOT burn leaves, brush, trash, or debris.
🚫 Avoid any activity that could create sparks or open flames outdoors.
📢 Share this post to help spread the word.

Current conditions are extremely dry, and even a small fire can spread rapidly, putting lives, property, and first responders at risk.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping protect our community. We will provide updates as soon as the burn ban is lifted or additional information becomes available.

Today was about more than taking a photo. It was about capturing what the Fourth of July represents.

This Independence Day, members of Desoto Fire District 2 and the Desoto Parish Sheriff's Office came together to create something we hope our community can be proud of. With our American flag proudly suspended from Ladder 23, a Sheriff’s Office helicopter hovering overhead, and a patrol unit standing alongside our firefighters, the image tells a story far greater than any one agency.

It tells the story of teamwork.

Every day, firefighters, deputies, EMS, dispatchers, and so many others work side by side with one shared mission: protecting the people of DeSoto Parish. We wear different uniforms and serve in different roles, but when our community needs us, we answer together.

We’re also incredibly thankful for Mike and Mark Mangham of Twin Blends: Northwest Louisiana History Hunters, who volunteered their time and talent to help preserve this special moment. It’s a reminder that serving our community isn’t limited to first responders. We are blessed to have citizens who give back in their own unique ways, helping tell the story of the people who serve.

Today, we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy, the men and women who have defended them, and the partnerships that make our community stronger every single day.

HIGHWAY 171 SOUTHBOUND IS NOW OPEN

Good news! Southbound Highway 171 has reopened after crews from the Louisiana Department of Transportation worked through the night and into the early morning hours to complete a temporary repair.

Please use caution as you travel through the area and slow down while crossing the repaired section of roadway.

Thank you to the Louisiana DOT crews for their hard work and dedication to getting the highway reopened as safely and quickly as possible.

Happy 4th of July from DeSoto Fire District 2!

Today is a day to celebrate freedom, family, and the communities we are blessed to serve. As you enjoy the holiday with cookouts, fireworks, time on the water, and gatherings with loved ones, we ask everyone to take a few extra steps to stay safe.

Please use fireworks responsibly, keep children at a safe distance, never relight a dud, have water nearby, and make sure grills and outdoor flames are used away from homes, vehicles, and dry grass. If you are traveling, slow down, buckle up, and please do not drink and drive.

Our firefighters are on duty and ready to respond if you need us, but our hope is that everyone has a safe and uneventful Independence Day.

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT – Highway 171 Southbound Closure in Gloster 🚨

Just before 6:00 p.m., personnel from DeSoto Fire District 2, the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office, and DeSoto Parish EMS responded to a multiple-vehicle crash in the 4600 block of Highway 171 in Gloster.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered seven vehicles with varying degrees of damage. The incident appears to have been caused by a significant failure in the concrete roadway, likely due to the extreme heat, which created a large buckle in the highway before the roadway could be closed to traffic.

Five patients were transported to local emergency departments with minor injuries.

At this time, southbound Highway 171 remains closed in the 4600 block while traffic is being rerouted. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has been notified and is expected to respond to assess and repair the roadway.

⚠️ Please use caution if traveling in the area. Emergency personnel remain on scene, and motorists are encouraged to slow down, follow all traffic control devices, and consider alternate routes until the roadway can be safely reopened.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as crews work to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

Today, Ladder 23 underwent its annual aerial inspection and testing to ensure the apparatus remains safe, reliable, and ready for service.

These inspections are a critical part of maintaining the highest standards of safety for our firefighters and the citizens we serve. By thoroughly testing and evaluating the aerial device, we can ensure Ladder 23 is prepared to respond whenever and wherever it is needed.

We remain committed to providing the best possible service to the residents of our response area and supporting our neighboring communities through mutual aid when called upon.
