The Kansas Highway Patrol assisted Quivira Council, Scouting America during Awareness Camp at OJ Watson Park in Wichita.

Four KHP Troopers served as Den Leaders for the day, leading children through activities and events throughout camp. The campers were unaware that many of their Den Leaders were first responders or military personnel volunteering their time during the event.

At the end of camp, the Troopers changed into their Kansas Highway Patrol uniforms and, along with other Den Leaders, drove their emergency vehicles into the center of the park as a surprise for the children. The event gave campers an opportunity to meet community members who serve in first responder and military roles and learn more about what they do each day.

Thank you to Quivira Council, Scouting America, for allowing the Kansas Highway Patrol to assist with this event.

Recently, a Trooper in Sedgwick County stopped a vehicle traveling 96 MPH in a 40 MPH zone — 56 MPH over the posted speed limit.
Speeds like this leave little time to react and put everyone on the road at serious risk. No destination is worth risking lives. Slow down, drive responsibly, and help keep our roads safe.

🚨Community Appreciation Post🚨

"Hello! I wanted to express my appreciation for the Kansas Highway Patrol, specifically Trooper Wilson with taking time out of her day to show my wife and I how to properly install our child safety seat. As new parents we wanted to make sure our child is safe and secure, I was not confident I could properly install it.

Trooper Wilson did an excellent job showing us how to install it and even went above and beyond and came to our residence, and even offered to register our car seat for us. We are incredibly thankful for this service that the Kansas Highway Patrol offers."

The Kansas Highway Patrol is collaborating with partner agencies in the Wichita area to conduct deliberate traffic enforcement operations throughout the spring and summer.

The coordinated effort includes an increased presence of ground units and specialized resources such as aviation support, breath alcohol units, and motor vehicle theft units focused on reducing impaired driving and other high-risk behaviors.

A coordinated enforcement on May 15 resulted in:
• 7 DUI Arrests
• 60 Speed Citations
• 31 Hazardous Moving Violation Citations
• 40 Misdemeanor Arrests
• 346 Total Enforcement Activities

The Kansas Highway Patrol remains committed to proactive enforcement and public safety all summer long.

As the school year begins to wind down and students look forward to summer break, it’s important to remember that school zone speed limits are still in place for a reason. Children are outside walking home, riding bikes, playing with friends, and enjoying the warmer weather.

Recently, a Trooper in Sedgwick County stopped a driver traveling 62 mph in a 35 mph school zone. Incidents like this are a reminder of why slowing down and staying alert behind the wheel matters so much.

Please use extra caution when driving through school zones and residential areas. A few extra seconds on the road can make all the difference in keeping our youth safe. Let’s all do our part to protect our children and ensure they can safely enjoy the start of their summer break.

After Trooper Ellis was injured in the line of duty, 4th-grade students at Vermillion Elementary School in Maize created heartfelt get-well cards to show their support and encouragement. The thoughtful gesture meant a great deal to Trooper Ellis and the Kansas Highway Patrol.

To thank the students for their kindness, Colonel Smith, Captain Schreiber, and Trooper Ellis arrived at the school in a Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter, which landed in the parking lot so students could see it up close. Trooper Ellis spent time speaking with the children, sharing his experience and answering their many questions about his injuries and recovery.

The students were incredibly respectful, attentive, and genuinely interested in his story. After the discussion, they had the opportunity to explore the helicopter and watch as it took off, making the experience memorable and meaningful for everyone involved.

Another Well Done Wednesday from the road!

A local Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper in Sedgwick County made multiple daytime DUI arrests throughout the week. One was involved in a crash and the other stopped for erratic driving.

Let this be a reminder to always buckle up and drive proactively. Impaired drivers can be on our roadways at anytime!

After 12 years of being the Public Resource Officer for Troop F and “Trooper Chad” on social media, it’s time to pass the torch. Over the summer I promoted and have the honor to supervise all the Public Resource Officers from across the state.

It was a great privilege to represent the Patrol in south central Kansas and work with so many great partners over the years. Although I’m leaving the Troop F page, you can still find me posting on Kansas Highway Patrol Recruiting & Community Engagement.

Thank you to everyone who supports the Kansas Highway Patrol and I’ll be leaving you in great hands with our new Troop F Public Resource Officer, “Trooper Wes”!
