City of Kechi

City of Kechi Kechi: Creative. Connected. Pleasantly Unexpected. This is a rapidly-growing community of more than 2000 residents, located to the north of Wichita, Kansas.

Access into Kechi can be from Highways 254 and 135, both of which are 4-lane expressways. Kechi residents enjoy the quiet and safety of a small city while being only minutes away from metropolitan services, shopping and entertainment. Both new residents and businesses are welcomed. There are several new housing additions and commercially zoned areas for economic development. If you are looking to

relocate your family or business, consider the benefits of becoming part of this great community. If you are already a Kechi resident, your active involvement is encouraged and needed. Opportunities include serving as an elected official or member of one of the boards/groups that meet on a regular basis. An example of a shorter-term commitment would be to assist with the annual Kechi Fair. Resident input/involvement is welcomed and appreciated! City council meetings (2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month), we encourage residents to come and meet their city council members.

Questions About Your Water Bill? We're Here to Help!

The City of Kechi has been contacted by several residents this week regarding water bills that were higher than expected. If you have questions about your water bill, please don't hesitate to contact City Hall at 316-744-9287.

Our staff is happy to assist and have several tools available to help investigate your water usage, including:
- Verifying the meter reading on your account
- Reviewing water consumption trends
- Access to usage graphs that can show daily and even hourly water usage patterns

While these graphs are not exact, they can often help identify unusual water usage and possible leaks. Our goal is to help residents understand their utility bills and answer any questions they may have.

Reminder About Water Rates
Please remember that the City's tiered water rate structure went into effect on July 1, 2025, with an additional rate increase implemented in March 2026. More information about current utility rates can be found here:
https://kechiks.gov/167/Utility-Billing

Check for Leaks
Even a small water leak can waste a surprising amount of water over time. A ¼-inch leak can waste approximately 158,000 gallons of water in just three months.
Take a few moments to check:
- Faucets
- Toilets
- Outdoor spigots
- Irrigation systems
- Water lines and pipes
Promptly repairing leaks can help conserve water and reduce your monthly utility bill.

If you have any concerns or questions about your bill, please call City Hall at 316-744-9287. We're here to help!

With temperatures reaching the 90s and even 100°+, remember that watering in the middle of the day does more harm than good. Much of the water evaporates quickly, and hot afternoon sun can stress and burn your lawn, causing it to look dead.

✅ Water on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only.
✅ Water before 10:00 AM or after 6:00 PM

Now is also a great time to check your sprinkler system for broken heads, leaks, or areas that may be overwatering. A little maintenance can save water and help keep your lawn healthy through the summer heat.

🎨 Got a Creative Idea? Paint a Fire Hydrant in Kechi! 🎨

Remember the colorful fire hydrants that popped up around Kechi in 2020? Now is your chance to help bring them back!

Public Works is beginning to refresh fire hydrants throughout the city. Hydrants that need repainting will be restored to the standard red color unless a resident submits a new design for approval.

The Kechi Arts Council will be repainting hydrants located in the Arts & Business District, and residents are encouraged to participate by creating designs for hydrants in their own neighborhoods.

1st - Create a design concept
2nd - Submit it to [email protected] for approval
3rd - Help make Kechi more colorful and creative

Bright colors are required!
Black paint is NOT permitted. Green paint is NOT recommended.

Let's turn ordinary fire hydrants into community art once again!

Submit designs to [email protected]
