This weeks bacteria results. The upper part of the Potomac looks good, but the Antietam and Monacacy are not looking good. This could be spotty rain events hitting certain areas while missing others. These results are for the waters edge at each site and not representative of the entire river at that location.

Whether the the river has passed or not, always remember to wash your hands before eating, limit submerging your head...especially for young people or immune compromised individuals and it is never a good idea to swim in any river with an opened wound.

Here's an opportunity for Student Service Learning hours.

We will have a volunteer opportunity at Washington Monument State Park on July 20th at 10AM to identify and remove invasive plants. This is a great opportunity for Student Service Learning hours or to just pitch in and help your local ecosystem.

Participants should wear appropriate clothing for working outdoors, and bring gloves, water, bug spray, sunscreen, etc. Trash bags will be provided. Register by emailing [email protected]

This week's test results look really good. Please be safe out there. If you are doing any water recreation this weekend, and I know many will, here is some advice so that everyone is safe.

- Always wear a PFD...life jacket
- Be careful in swift water.
- Don't do water sports alone...it's more fun in a group.
- Let someone know where and for how long you will be in the water.
- Wash your hands before you eat.
- Be responsible if you decide to consume alcohol.
