Active and retired law enforcement officers are invited to participate in the Law Enforcement Walk-Through on Thursday, August 20th. Please arrive no later than 1545 hours. Uniform of the day or civilian attire with badge displayed.

PRESS RELEASE
On Thursday, July 30th, 2026 at 05:27 AM the Chesterfield Police Department was dispatched to assist Oxford, ME Police in the search for a missing juvenile whose last known location was in Chesterfield. The vehicle was located and found to be abandoned on Old Chesterfield Road. New Hampshire State Police Troop C and the Cheshire County Sheriff’s aided in the establishment of a base command. K-9 Crush from Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office discovered evidence at the scene, which yielded several leads that directed authorities to a residence in town. The juvenile was eventually located and reunited with her family.

Chesterfield Police were assisted by New Hampshire State Police Troop C, Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office, Hinsdale Police, Keene Police, Wi******er Police, New Hampshire Fish & Game, Vermont State Police, Bellows Falls Police, Springfield VT Police, and Chesterfield Fire Departments.

The Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office sends its condolences to the family and joins the law enforcement community in mourning the passing of Retired Deputy Sergeant Earl D. Nelson.

Retired Sergeant Nelson dedicated his career to public safety and was well known by the law enforcement, and trained many officers during his career

Today Deputy Sheriff Brendan Bosquet retires after 26 years of combine law enforcement service with the Nelson, Gilsum, Richmond and Wi******er Police Departments, and the Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to the citizens of Cheshire county and beyond.

Today, we honor Deputy John Walker of the Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office.

On March 16, 1886, Deputy Walker was assisting a Mrs. Emma Josephine Nash, (Ms. Jennings); remove some of her belongings from her home in Walpole NH. Ms. Jennings was in a reported abusive relationship and the abuse led Ms. Jennings to begin divorce proceedings at the Cheshire County Superior Court. She asked for assistance of the Cheshire County Sheriff’s Office to assist with the removal of her belongings. The husband, Charles Jennings was cooperative during the removal until the wagoner assisting with the removal of the property inadvertently loaded a box that Mr. Jennings did not want removed from the residence. Mr. Jennings became enraged and attacked Deputy Walker with an axe striking him in the head and arm causing severe injuries to Deputy Walker. Deputy Walker was not able to recover from these severe injuries and lost his life on April 22, 1886.

Today we remember and honor the life of Cheshire County Deputy Sheriff John S. Walker, Sr. who died in the line of duty April 22, 1886. New Hampshire’s first confirmed line of duty death.
