Two smart young ladies, two different strategies for climbing the social ladder:

As she gets older, spicy Diane is distancing herself from some of the younger chimps and aligning more with her high-ranking mom, Muffy. She's even so bold as to train next to the group's alpha, Mason, and has become more assertive during food time. TBD on whether her habit of wielding large sticks at others will help or hinder her cause!

Meanwhile, fellow adolescent Arden is taking a quieter approach. She generally keeps a low profile around high-ranking members of the group, but a developing friendship with higher-ranking Dea could prove beneficial for her social standing. Either way, Arden doesn't get upset if things don't go her way.

Regardless of how far they move up the social ladder, it's a joy to see them find their way in the sanctuary's largest social group, with chimps of all ages to learn from and bond with. 💚

Fifty-four-year-old Funface came to Chimp Haven last year from Alamogordo. Earlier this spring, he and his group moved into an open-top corral for the first time in their lives, and while other groupmates ventured out to climb and explore the multi-tiered structures in their play yard, Funface was a bit more reserved, preferring to stay closer to the ground. Last week though, his caregivers were thrilled to look up and see him looking down at them! Our Alamogordo newbies have shown us again and again it's never too late to embark on new adventures, and we couldn't be more happy for Funface to be enjoying the view from the top. 💚

Pant-hoots to Nylabone for their generous donation of enrichment toys! The chimps enjoy them in so many creative ways, but today's peanut butter-covered treat was a big hit. 💚

While the chimps arrive at sanctuary with names, occasionally, we end up with more than one chimp with the same name. In those cases, the Chimp Haven care team nominates and votes for a middle name to help differentiate them, and it's always fun to hear what they've come up with! Swipe to meet them 💚
