❤️ We have our first Heart at Work Employee of the Month of the school year!

September’s Heart at Work honoree is Patsi Cassidy, a sixth-grade math teacher at Trinity Meadows Intermediate!

During a busy day of PD, Patsi saw her administrative team had no time to grab lunch and stepped in to pick it up for everyone. It was a simple gesture that made a big difference and perfectly demonstrated what it means to have a Heart at Work.

Thank you, Patsi, for leading with kindness and always going above and beyond!

And a special thank you to EECU, Homes For Heroes, Lone Star State, and Tiff's Treats for generously supporting this month’s Heart at Work honoree!

Keller ISD is launching a new virtual learning hybrid program for the 2027-28 school year and is looking for your feedback to make the program a success.

Students in this virtual learning hybrid program would have the opportunity to take some of their courses online while still attending other classes in person, participating in activities, and accessing services at Keller ISD high schools.

Your feedback will help Keller ISD plan the program and determine which virtual learning options and courses are most important to students and families.

Provide your input by taking this KISD Virtual Hybrid Program Learning Interest Survey. Responses will be accepted through Friday, September 18.

The Board of Trustees met for its monthly Regular Meeting on Thursday, August 27. Highlights of the meeting included:

Updates & Reports

📋 Board President’s Report: President Birt thanked all of the operations staff involved in ensuring that schools could open Thursday after Wednesday evening’s storm and congratulated the Timber Creek High School Marching Band on their invitation to the Rose Parade and successful showcase event last Saturday.

📋 Superintendent’s Report: Dr. Wilson and Deputy Superintendent John Allison shared updates on school air conditioning systems, student technology deployment, the KISD Natatorium, and the district’s preliminary FIRST rating:
The combination of equipment that is more than 20 years old and triple-degree heat has put a lot of strain on schools’ HVAC systems. KISD has deployed more than 180 spot coolers throughout the district, each costing KISD $550 per week.

Deployment of refreshed student devices is expected to conclude around Labor Day despite supply chain and software issues creating delays.

Natatorium repairs remain on track for an October reopening.
KISD is also celebrating an increase in its Financial Integrity Reporting System of Texas (FIRST) rating, improving from a C to a B.

📚 State Accountability, Math Adoption, and Virtual Learning:

Chief Academic Officer Jennifer Price provided an update on state accountability ratings that were recently released, implementation of the new math adoption, and creation of a virtual hybrid program.

Five schools advanced at least one letter grade, including Caprock Elementary that went from a C to an A, and North Riverside Elementary which made an unprecedented move from a D to an A.

Teacher training for the new math curriculum went well over the summer and is being implemented in classrooms.

Keller ISD is developing a virtual learning hybrid program that would allow students to take some classes online while taking others in person. A survey will be shared in the coming weeks to gauge the community’s interest in the program.

Action Taken by the Board

✅ Approval of an agreement for the purchase of attendance credits netting Chapter 48 funding in the amount of $2,690,591 – Keller ISD’s recapture payment back to state.

✅ Approval of 2026-27 board advisory committee recommendations, which establishes memberships for a Budget Committee, District Educational Improvement Committee (DEIC), Long-Range Planning Committee (LRPC), and Policy Review Committee.

✅ Approval of a resolution concerning the purchase of real property from the city of Keller, allowing the district to enter into an agreement for the purchase of the land on which the Keller ISD Natatorium is located.

✅ Approval of revisions to local policies aligning with recommendations from the Texas Association of School Boards due to changes in state statutes.

✅ Approval of purchases exceeding $25,000, which was pulled from the consent agenda to discuss the district’s purchasing process.

✅ Approval of an agreement with Texas Tech University for student clinical training for an orientation and mobility (O&M) program, which was also pulled from the consent agenda and allows a student to complete an unpaid internship with Keller ISD.
