Keller residents and businesses will continue to receive trash and recycling services from Community Waste Disposal after the City Council this week authorized city staff to execute a new five-year contract.
The agreement follows a competitive review process that evaluated service levels, customer service performance, operational plans and rates. CWD has served Keller since 2010, and residents expressed strong support for the company and the city’s current solid waste schedule in this year’s community survey.
“As mayor and City Council, we believe it’s important to listen when residents tell us what’s working, and our recent citizen survey results were clear that CWD is meeting — and in many cases exceeding — resident expectations,” Mayor Ross McMullin said. “We appreciate the time and effort all of the bidders invested in this process and look forward to maintaining the exceptional services our residents and businesses deserve.”
Under the new agreement, Keller residents will continue to receive the same services they’ve come to rely upon, including twice-weekly garbage and weekly recycling, yard waste and bulk collection. Residents will also have the option to schedule a cart-cleaning service once per year and will continue to have access to special seasonal leaf collections and door-side collections for household hazardous waste and recyclable electronics.
New to the contract, CWD will provide interested residents with a 95-gallon trash cart at no additional cost. The company will also offer claw/brush truck services to the city for up to 50 hours per year to handle issues such as significant storm debris.
As anticipated, both residential and commercial customers will see a modest rate increase when the new agreement takes effect on Sept. 1, 2026. The residential rate will increase by $2.83, bringing the average customer's monthly solid waste bill to $22.97. Commercial customers should expect a 15.1% increase over their current rates, which vary by container size and collection schedule.
The final contract and related ordinance item are scheduled for approval during the July 7 City Council meeting.
