It is with a very heavy heart that we updated the NIPPON memory board as the last of our deceased friends have been recovered. This is a tremendous loss for our family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, community, and the entire nation.

The volunteers at Cowlitz Regional News offers each and every person affected by that fateful day our sincere condolences.

Today, our community experienced a heartbreaking tragedy at the Nippon Mill in Longview. What should have been normal day quickly turned into a devastating incident that resulted in multiple injuries and tragic loss of life.

In a small community like ours, these moments impact all of us. Many of the workers involved are not just employees — they are our friends, neighbors, family members, fellow union brothers and sisters and fellow community members. Tonight, countless families are facing unimaginable pain and uncertainty.

Please keep everyone affected in your thoughts and prayers, including the injured, the families of those lost, first responders, and all mill workers who were on scene today.

This is a time for Longview to come together, support one another, and show compassion however we can. Hug your loved ones a little tighter tonight.
