Today we remember and honor Battalion Chief Mike Zainfeld. A 25-year veteran firefighter of Cowlitz 2, BC Zainfeld began with Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue in September of 1994 as a fire cadet in the first year of this program. Mike was hired full time in 2000 after completing paramedic training in Tacoma. After several years as a firefighter, he was promoted to Lieutenant, Captain, and lastly Battalion Chief. He was active in all hazard deployments, qualified as a division supervisor, and served on assignments in several states.

BC Zainfeld passed six years ago today, but his legacy lives on. Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue, along with other fire and police agencies in Cowlitz County now have a robust peer support program to support members experiencing the effects of our work on our mental health.

We encourage anyone who is experiencing a mental health crisis to reach out. You can dial 988 to reach the National Mental Health Hotline. Locally, we also have a great resource in the Cowlitz Chaplaincy who are trained in critical incident stress managment.

🇺🇸 Never Forget 🇺🇸

Today, we honor and remember not only the 343 brave firefighters who gave their lives on September 11, 2001, but also the thousands of innocent men, women and children who were lost that tragic day.

We also carry in our hearts the many first responders, survivors, and families who continue to suffer and those who we have since lost due to the lasting impact of that day.

Your sacrifice, courage, and memory will live on forever.

9/11 – We Will Never Forget – Always Remembered
