The news is out! We're excited to announce that, upon approvals, we're rebuilding our Visitor Center beginning this coming spring! The new Visitor Center and Center for Global Raptor Conservation will replace our current aging facility and will be fully ADA accessible, energy-efficient, and designed to better serve visitors and showcase Hawk Mountain's local to global conservation reach.

And no worries—Hawk Mountain trails and lookouts will remain OPEN throughout construction, and public programming will continue!

Coming down with falcon fever? We have the cure—a day on North Lookout this October!

Species diversity peaks in October, meaning this is the best time of year to see a wide variety of hawks, falcons, eagles, and more at Hawk Mountain. Sharp-shinned hawks are currently dominating the flight, with a season-high 442 sharpies counted on October 5!

Species counted since October 1st include 63 turkey vultures, 21 ospreys, 95 bald eagles, 6 golden eagles, 15 northern harriers, 1,354 sharp-shinned hawks, 82 Cooper’s hawks, 2 red-shouldered hawks, 17 broad-winged hawks, 81 red-tailed hawks, 130 American kestrels, 36 merlin, and 30 peregrine falcons.

Weather strongly influences the flight on any given day. Best flight conditions at Hawk Mountain occur one to two days after the passage of a cold front and on days with northwesterly winds.
