Good morning everyone,
I am attaching my candidacy speech. Please take the time to view it. Transcript below:
Yagheli du? How is it with you? Logan Wik sh’izhi qilan, Ricky Wik sh’tukda nlan, Amy Peikert sh’unkda nlan, Harold Wik sh’chada’a ghila’en, Bonnie Attleson sh’chida’a nlan. I was born and raised in Kenai. I am asking for your support in my bid for a seat on Kenaitze’s Tribal Council. I have worked for the Tribe since 2017, and since then, I have applied myself to different boards, committees, and commissions. Currently, I vice-chair the Hunting, Fishing, and Gathering Commission, where we have made great strides in serving our un’ina and ensuring food security for those in our area. I have also spent time with our Constitution Committee, where we have held informational meetings to gather input from Tribal members to ensure that we are making the changes needed to support our ever-growing Tribe.
While working with the Tribe, I am also furthering my education at Kenai Peninsula College, in hopes that I can apply my knowledge to further improve the Tribe. Education is one of my highest priorities, and I hope that we can return to a more traditional and culturally appropriate setting for our youth. The youth are the future of our Tribe, and it is my goal to ensure that they are able to carry on our ways of life and pass them on to the next generation. I hope that by joining the Council this year, I can show all of our youth that anyone is capable of leadership, no matter how old they are, and inspire them to become the next leaders of our Tribe. It is of great importance that our youth learn how to govern so that our ways of life and methods of governance are not lost.
By voting for me in this election, you can rest assured that I will always vote in the best interests of our Tribal members. It is my belief that our membership is the heart of our Tribe. You, our Tribal members, are what make us who we are, the Kahtnuht’ana Dena’ina. I encourage you to join us at this annual meeting and ask for your support. Together, we can make the changes needed to ensure that the Kahtnuht’ana Dena’ina thrive forever.
Chiqinik gheli.
