City of Kenai Police Department The City of Kenai is located on the east shore of Cook Inlet at the mouth of the Kenai River, positioned midway between Homer and Anchorage.

Kenai has a population of 7100, expanding during the summer with tourists and an active commercial fishing industry. The community is also a major base for the oilfield service industry. The Kenai Police Department was formed in 1969 with only three officers. Eighteen officers, eight dispatchers and support personnel currently staff it. During summer months, six temporary enforcement officers are

hired to accommodate the increase in calls for service. Community programs offered by the KPD include D.A.R.E., Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch and Crime Stoppers. The department stresses training and education of its officers in order to remain responsive to community needs.

Over the past few days, we've received a number of reports of a scam involving text messages. These messages are fraudulent.

⚠️ What to watch for:

- Unexpected texts asking for payment or personal information
- Messages creating a sense of urgency (“act now” or “final notice”)
- Links that look suspicious or slightly altered from official websites
- Requests for passwords, banking info, or verification codes

⚠️ What you should do:

- Do NOT click on any links or respond to the message
- Do NOT provide personal or financial information
- Delete the message
- If you’re unsure, contact the organization directly using a trusted phone number or website

If you believe you may have provided information or fallen victim to this scam, contact your financial institution immediately and report it to your local law enforcement agency.

Please share this information with friends and family—especially those who may be more vulnerable to scams.
