Town of Kenansville

It is nearing that time of the year again! If you have been riding around Town the last few days you will have noticed our new Christmas decorations lining our streets. The Public Works staff is working extra hard to get all of the wreaths and banners up and operational as this is written. Also, as tradition has shown it is also time for our annual Christmas Tree Lighting. This year is scheduled for Monday, November 30, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. Due to COVID and the corresponding Governor's orders, the event will be scaled back quite a bit this year but with the same sense of Christmas cheer as always. Additionally, for those who would rather stay home, we plan to video the lighting event for everyone to see. Please stay tuned for more information and mark your calendars for the start of our Kenansville Christmas season on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 5:30 p.m.

Duplin County Economic Development Commission

The Duplin County Economic Development Commission (EDC) was created by an act of Legislature which was approved by the voters of Duplin County in a referendum on June 3, 1963. In 2008, the EDC determined that additional financial resources were needed to compete globally and began the process to obtain a 501(c)(3). In March 2011, the nonprofit segment of Economic Development (called the Foundation for Duplin County Industrial and Business Development) received their tax exempt status. Over the last 54 years, the EDC has remained a county funded organization. The EDC operates with a 10-member board appointed by various groups throughout the county including the Duplin County Commissioners, Municipal Association, James Sprunt Community College, and the Board of Education. The EDC Board meets once a month in open session to address current economic development issues and in closed session to discuss current and ongoing projects.

Mission Statement: To further economic development prospects, promote job creation opportunities, wage growth, and growth in the tax base in Duplin County.

Goals and Objectives:

  • Manage the development and implementation of a public/private partnership.
