๐Ÿ”ฅ Wheat Field Fires & Agricultural Burns โ€“ What to Know ๐ŸŒพ

Over the coming weeks, you may notice large columns of smoke rising across Duplin County. Don't be alarmed โ€” this is a common sight during this time of year as farmers begin controlled burns in harvested wheat fields. These agricultural burns help remove leftover crop residue, manage pests, and prepare the land for the next planting season.

These fires are intentionally set and carefully managed to reduce wildfire risk and support local agriculture. However, they can produce a lot of visible smoke โ€” sometimes enough to cause concern.

๐Ÿ“ž If you ever believe a fire appears to be out of control or spreading beyond its intended area, donโ€™t hesitate โ€” call 911 immediately. Itโ€™s always better to be safe than sorry.

We appreciate your awareness and support of our agricultural community!

Duplin County EMS proudly concluded EMS Week 2026 on Friday, May 22nd, with our annual EMS Banquet. As EMS Week 2026 comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on an incredible week of fellowship, appreciation, wellness, and recognition throughout Duplin County EMS.

We proudly kicked off the week with our โ€œHealth, Wellness, and Resilience Dayโ€ walk โ€” bringing our team together to focus on the importance of physical and mental wellness while strengthening the bonds that make our organization so special.

Throughout the week, our crews enjoyed daily meals and an ice cream social hosted at our main station in Kenansville, providing an opportunity for fellowship and appreciation among the dedicated men and women who serve our communities each day.

We were also honored to welcome Thin Line Responder Wellness, who shared valuable resources and support focused on responder mental health and peer support. Additionally, Brad Lawson and Maverick, therapy dog with The Pierce Foundation, spent time with our team reminding us all of the importance of resilience, compassion, and caring for one another.

A very special thank you goes out to our ECU Health Duplin family, who truly spoiled our team throughout EMS Week with themed gifts, meals, treats, and overwhelming support each day. Your kindness and appreciation mean more than words can express, and we are incredibly thankful for the partnership we share in serving our community together.

Tonight, we conclude EMS Week with our annual EMS Banquet, where we will recognize the hard work, dedication, and commitment demonstrated daily by the members of Duplin County EMS.

To every Paramedic, EMT, Telecommunicator, Supervisor, Support Staff member, and community partner โ€” thank you for your dedication to improving outcomes, together.

This week, we are proud to celebrate EMS Week 2026 โ€” May 17โ€“23 with this yearโ€™s national theme: โ€œImproving Outcomes, Together.โ€

EMS Week is a time to recognize the dedication, professionalism, and life-saving work of Emergency Medical Services professionals across the country. First authorized in 1974, EMS Week brings communities and medical personnel together to honor those who provide day-to-day lifesaving care on medicineโ€™s front line.

For Duplin County EMS, โ€œImproving Outcomes, Togetherโ€ reflects the work our team does every day, not only by responding to emergencies, but by working alongside 911 telecommunicators, fire departments, law enforcement, healthcare partners, public health, and community members to provide the best possible care for the people we serve. The national EMS Week message highlights that collaboration, communication, provider wellness, innovation, and strong community partnerships are all essential to improving patient outcomes.

Our EMTs, Advanced EMTs, Paramedics, Division Officers, and support personnel continue to make a difference through rapid response, clinical excellence, compassion, training, prevention, and teamwork. Whether caring for a critically ill patient, recognizing a stroke, managing a traumatic injury, supporting one another after difficult calls, or preparing for the next emergency, the mission remains the same: serving our community with pride and purpose.

During EMS Week and every week, we thank the members of Duplin County EMS for their commitment to protecting the health and safety of Duplin County.

To our EMS Team: thank you for the work you do, the sacrifices you make, and the outcomes you help improve, together.

๐Ÿš‘ Happy EMS Week 2026!

๐Ÿ“ธ Document your valuables and store important records somewhere safe and easy to access.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Make preparedness a family effort so everyone understands what to do before, during, and after a storm.
