Join us Tuesday, April 7, 2026 | 6–8 p.m. at Waring Fire-Rescue to learn how to better prepare your property for wildfire.

We’ll walk through simple, practical steps you can take now to protect your home, your family, and your community.

We all expect firefighters to respond when a fire starts—but our greatest responsibility is to prepare before it happens. Preparation saves lives and helps reduce property damage.

🔥 Outdoor Burning: What You Need to Know Before You Burn 🔥

People and their actions cause over 90% of wildfires in Texas. Many start as “controlled” burns that escape due to wind changes, lack of water, or fires left unattended.

Before burning outdoors, please review these critical requirements and safety reminders:

📞 Call Before You Burn
Notify: • Local dispatch
• Local fire department
• Texas A&M Forest Service

Be prepared to provide: • Burn location
• Estimated size & duration
• On-site contact person
• Gate code and water source

⏰ When You Can Burn
• Burn no earlier than 1 hour after sunrise
• Extinguish no later than 1 hour before sunset
• Do not burn during burn bans, Red Flag Warnings, or Fire Weather Watches

💨 Weather Matters
• Winds must be between 6–23 mph
• Avoid burning during drought, low humidity, or poor air quality conditions

🔥 Safe Debris Burning
✔ Keep piles small and manageable
✔ Clear at least 10 feet around the burn area
✔ Have water available at all times
✔ Never leave a fire unattended

🚫 Do NOT Burn
• Trash, plastics, or rubber
• Treated or construction materials
• Electrical insulation
• Chemicals, oils, or explosive materials

⚠️ Burning illegally or recklessly can result in criminal charges and property damage liability.

📌 Please take a moment to review the attached Outdoor Burning pamphlet. A few extra precautions can prevent a wildfire and protect lives, property, and first responders.
