Sunday, Aug 30th was a busy day for KPVFC, with our crews responding to multiple incidents throughout the afternoon, evening, and overnight hours.
At approximately 15:45, KPVFC was dispatched to an activated fire alarm at Express Casino Car Wash in Monmouth Junction. With MJFD operating at a large fire at Reliable Wood Products on Broadway Road, Deputy Chief 230 responded while additional KP crews remained available at the station. Chief 220 was already operating at Reliable Wood Products in his role as a Middlesex County Fire Coordinator.
Shortly after 16:00, Ladder 223 was requested mutual aid to Reliable Wood Products, where a large pile of unprocessed wood used to produce mulch was heavily involved. Ladder 223 operated an elevated master stream, providing aerial water suppression as crews worked to contain the fire.
Due to the size of the fire and limited water supply, a tanker task force was deployed. As operations continued, additional engines, trucks, tankers, and resources from departments throughout the region were brought in to assist.
While Ladder 223 remained committed to the fire, at approximately 19:30, KPVFC was dispatched to Rt 1 and Sand Hills Road for an MVC with entrapment. Deputy Chief 230, Rescue 228, and Engine 221 responded. KPVFC crews worked alongside KPFAS, MJFAS, and SBPD to safely extricate the patient, who was transported to the hospital by EMS.
When approaching emergency crews on the roadway, please slow down, put down your phone, and give first responders room to work safely.
With Ladder 223 still operating, a fresh KP crew relieved the original crew at approximately 23:30 and continued through the overnight hours. Ladder 223 returned to quarters at approximately 04:30 Monday morning.
It was a long day and night for our volunteers, staffing the station, handling calls in our district, and providing mutual aid to our neighbors.
