When we got the last big round of snow, there was a residential fire in Kenilworth. Without access to your street’s hydrants there is a potential delay in our ability to access a water source to help you. Please be proactive in protecting yourself, your family, your neighbors and your property and dig out any hydrants on your street. Stay safe & warm, Kenilworth.

Last night, at 2308, the Kenilworth Fire Department & Rescue Squad were dispatched to the report of a fully involved garage fire, attached to a residence. Engine 63, Truck 3, Rescue 2, Rescue 3, Car 1, Car 2, Car 3 & Car 4 responded. Prior to KFD arrival, officers from KPD entered the residence & removed residents from the smoke filled home.

Crews from Engine 63 made entry into the garage and quickly suppressed the fire & prevented it from spreading through the rest of the residence. Crews from Truck 3 conducted a search & ventilated the home. Hazmat was requested to the scene. Both Kenilworth Rescue 2 & Rescue 3 treated & transported residents & one KPD officer to the hospital for smoke inhalation. No serious injuries reported at this time. We extend our gratitude to the mutual aid agencies who responded both to the scene & fire headquarters for town coverage.

‼️ WINTER STORM TIPS! ‼️ As you may know, we are forecasted 12-18 inches of snow early tomorrow morning into Monday. Here are some tips to stay safe.

• Always be sure your closest fire hydrant is clear of any snow. A 3 foot perimeter should be cleared on each side of the hydrant to assure proper working distance for fire crews.

•Always check that your dryer vent is not blocked by snow before using your dryer! Although it may not look like a lot of snow, the wind can blow it toward your house making levels higher against the home!

• Always make sure your exterior gas meter is clear of any snow as well. Gas meters have a vent on them and if the vent gets clogged, it can vent natural gas into your home.

• Make sure all your devices, flashlights, medical devices are fully charged. Snow and ice puts a lot of weight on power lines and can cause power outages. ALWAYS assume downed wires are live. Stay away and dial 911.

• If you have to use a generator, NEVER run a generator inside of your home, and make sure that it is in a well ventilated area away from the home.

If you do not have to travel, stay off of the roads and stay safe and warm at home! We will have crews on standby in case of an emergency! 🚨
