Hello everyone! I would like to take some time to formally introduce myself, and the goals of this new page!
My name is Jericho Avery, a Kenly Native born and raised! I am 17 years old and currently attend Johnston Community College for Business Administration. On my time away from school, you can find me serving at restaurants or wandering through cemeteries, thrift shops, theatrical work, or volunteering at the Johnston County Heritage Center.
As a child, old homes, photographs, cemeteries, really anything old, fascinated me. I wanted to know all the history of where I was born, and I was always eager to learn about the mysteries and stories of the past. I believe history is one of the most important parts of life, because if it wasn’t for history, we wouldn’t be here. Knowing that one minor change in history could have altered life as we know it today, is such a strong and interesting thought.
History has always been a passion of mine, I pride myself in uncovering lost faces, stories, and locations of the past. I am currently a volunteer at the Johnston County Heritage Center where all the staff and volunteers have shown me nothing but kind smiles, conversations, and ideas. Alongside the help I have received from the Johnston County Heritage Center, I also have been given help from many local people. Too many for me to name in this introduction, but I’d like to think that they know who they are. I will always owe a great portion of my help to these people. I thank each and everyone one of you for your kind phone calls, conversations, and advice.
Now that’s enough about me, now let’s get to the goals I have in mind for this page. On Historic JoCo I would like to post about past stories, locations, photographs, etc. With Johnston County becoming a booming county, I’d like for all our new, and current residents to know the history of where they are raising their families. Even if history isn’t a passion to some, I believe everyone loves to know a piece of information about their towns, and counties.
On this page, you can expect articles, videos, and updates about the history of our beautiful county. All articles and videos on this page will be original and can be used by anyone to spread the history of Johnston County! I believe history is a passion, and the more it is shared, the better it becomes. Any Photos, Videos, or articles that will be published on this page that are not original will be given proper credit to the original owner!
With all of this being said, I hope that you look forward to sharing this experience, and I hope that you will learn and thing or two, or more!
Sincerely, Jericho Avery
