“We have declared a statewide wildfire emergency, enabling the North Dakota National Guard to deploy two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters to help fight a Billings County wildfire that has prompted the evacuation of the city of Medora.

The U.S. Forest Service, in cooperation with the North Dakota Forest Service, requested the National Guard helicopters with water buckets to help fight the fire southwest of Medora. Local, state and federal agencies are responding, including the North Dakota Highway Patrol, North Dakota Department of Emergency Services, and a National Guard ground support crew.

The public is asked to stay away from the area and use caution if passing through due to smoke reducing visibility on roadways, including Interstate 94, which was temporarily closed by the North Dakota Department of Transportation.

Our emergency declaration can be viewed here:”

For those wondering if Kenmare will experience rolling blackouts ⚡️

Montana-Dakota Utilities is a member of the MISO transmission grid and energy market. MISO does not expect to implement load reductions today, and Montana-Dakota Utilities does not expect any power interruptions today. The region’s other transmission/energy group, Southwest Power Pool, is curtailing load again today. Montana-Dakota Utilities does not receive energy from SPP and therefore is not impacted.

Wind chill warnings and advisories have been issued statewide, from Friday evening through Tuesday morning.

Be sure to dress yourself, your children, and your significant other, if they require assistance, appropriately for the cold temperatures. Try to cover up as much as possible with proper layering of clothing. Be sure to stay dry! Frostbite strikes fast when exposed body parts are wet. Lastly, limit your times outdoors to prevent hypothermia.

Stay warm and stay safe! 🥶

🎉 Happy New Years Eve! 🎆

As 2020 finally comes to an end, we would like to thank the community for their amazing support throughout 2020!

We do have a few reminders for everyone as we enter 2021!

1.) If you are going to drink, please don't drive. Be sure to designate a sober driver and don't let others drive under the influence. In 2019, 42% of motor vehicle fatalities in North Dakota were alcohol/drug related. From 2010-2019, 87% of these alcohol/drug related fatalities occurred on rural roadways (Source: North Dakota Vision Zero). Please do not become a statistic for this year or the next. There is no excuse to drink and drive. Let your bartender know if you are needing a ride and they can contact us at the Kenmare Police Department and we will do our best to accommodate you.

2.) The City of Kenmare has an ordinance in place stating fireworks can be discharged between December 31st through January 1st from 10:00PM-1:00AM (Section 4.0505) While discharging fireworks, please do so in a safe manor. Also, please be mindful that Kenmare is a growing community with small children, veterans, and pets, all of whom may be sensitive to loud noises that come with fireworks. The penalty for violating this ordinance is one hundred dollars ($100.00) for each occurrence.

Best Wishes for 2021!

Happy Holidays and stay safe!🎅🏼👮🏻

I would like to thank the Kenmare Police Department for checking on my wife and I after someone reported that we could be in some type of distress. We simply moved from one end of our building to the other! Rest easy Kenmare!🙂
I have a good friend that might want this little dog.
Having access to Kenmare Transit and emergency services is important. I am inquiring as to whether or not the alley behind Gartner's and the rear of the Hillside Apartments is part of the city snow removal plan? I understand this is not particularly a Police Department issue but it is a municipal issue. Thanks
