Please join us in welcoming our newest member of the Kennebunkport Police Department, Sergeant Darren Cyr!
Sgt. Cyr brings with him an impressive 24 years of full-time law enforcement experience and a strong commitment to serving the communities where he works.
A 2000 graduate of Southern Maine Technical College (now Southern Maine Community College) with an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement Technology, Sgt. Cyr began his career as a summer reserve officer with the Town of Ogunquit. He then joined the Kennebunk Police Department as a full-time officer, serving from 2001 to 2010. In 2006, he was promoted to Sergeant.
In 2010, Sgt. Cyr joined the York County Sheriff's Office, where he served until May 2026. During that time, he spent 10 years as the contract deputy for the Town of Parsonsfield. Serving in a small community allowed him to develop close relationships with residents, businesses and local organizations, reinforcing his belief that effective policing is built on trust, accessibility, and strong community partnerships.
When asked why he wanted to join the Kennebunkport Police Department, Sgt. Cyr explained that he fell in love with community policing while serving in Parsonsfield. He values the opportunity to get to know the people he serves, be visible and approachable, and work collaboratively with community members to address concerns before they become larger problems. He is excited to bring that same philosophy to Kennebunkport and continue building positive relationships throughout our community.
We are thrilled to have Sgt. Cyr join our team and look forward to the experience, leadership, and dedication he will bring to our department and the residents and visitors we serve.
Welcome to Kennebunkport, Sgt. Cyr!
