The Board of Directors of the Kennebunkport Business Association is deeply grateful that Vote C was approved in support of Christmas Prelude. This result demonstrates that our community recognizes the importance of this cherished event and is willing to invest in its continued success. Christmas Prelude brings people together, strengthens our local economy, showcases the very best of Kennebunkport, and helps support the many nonprofit organizations that contribute so much to our community throughout the year.

We thank everyone for the strong vote of confidence in Christmas Prelude, our local nonprofits, and the traditions that make Kennebunkport such a special place to live, work, and visit.

We look forward to working with the Board of Selectmen on the next steps.

Under appreciated in the funding debate about Kennebunkport's Christmas Prelude is how fortunate we are to have the KBA and hundreds of volunteers being incredibly generous with their time and money to organize, facilitate, and pull off this very special community tradition every year. Most of us just show up and enjoy the tree, the decorations, the parades, and the craft fairs, with no idea how many months and hours went into making this happen. Vote C on Tuesday June 9-C is for community, charity, and Christmas! Thanks Tina Marie Gordon and all of Kennebunkport Business Association for decades of commitment to our community and this treasured event! Vote C to Save Kennebunkport Prelude

For 44 years, businesses in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport have organized Christmas Prelude as a community event. From the Dock Square Tree lighting to seeing Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive on a lobster boat to the Hat Parade to the annual fireworks display and pooch parade, this event has become woven into the fabric of our community.

Costs associated with Christmas Prelude are overwhelmingly born by the members of the Kennebunkport Business Association (a 100% volunteer organization), with the town covering in-house public safety costs for the larger events. The KBA covers the cost of outside agencies and offers both towns the overtime costs. We ask that this arrangement remain in place to ensure that the event remains sustainable for future generations and continues to support the more than three dozen nonprofits that serve this community.

Next week is Election Day! On Tuesday night, I attended a community talk where residents of Kennebunkport could ask questions and discuss the details of question 2 on the town ballot, regarding whether or not the town will fund the municipal cost of Christmas Prelude, and if so, how much.

It was a delightful conversation that focused on the facts: how much Prelude costs to the Kennebunkport Business Association, how much it costs to the town, and why the town has brought forth this nonbinding question on the ballot.

It's so wonderful when community members have active and constructive discussions about their local issues. I come from a town that would let divisive topics split it apart, so kudos to the residents of Kennebunkport for communicating with one another so well.
