We're excited to welcome the newest class of students from Helix Community Schools to the American Red Cross team in Baton Rouge!

Through their Corporate Work Study Program, these future leaders will gain hands-on professional experience while supporting our humanitarian mission alongside Red Cross teammates. We're honored to be one of 19 local organizations selected to participate in this incredible program, which helps students explore career paths, build workplace skills and prepare for their futures.

A huge thank you to our friends from Xavier University of Louisiana for spending the day volunteering alongside our New Orleans team last month!

From organizing supply sheds to helping wash our vehicle fleet, their hard work supports every part of our humanitarian mission. When disaster strikes, a well-organized warehouse helps our teams quickly access the supplies families need, and clean vehicles help us show up proudly in communities across Southeast Louisiana.

Thank you for rolling up your sleeves and helping us stay ready to deliver hope and help when it's needed most. ❤️

Last night, our New Orleans team responded to a multi-family apartment fire at Rivertown Apartments in Kenner alongside the Kenner Fire Department, City of Kenner Government.

As firefighters worked to contain the blaze, Red Cross volunteers cared for 34 displaced families and provided immediate assistance to the 11 families whose homes were destroyed. Support included emergency financial assistance, medication replacement and connections to additional recovery resources.

We also provided snacks, water and comfort to residents as they waited for power to be restored and learned the next steps in their recovery journey.

We are grateful to the City of Kenner, which worked to ensure every affected family had a safe place to stay for the night. The Red Cross will continue to support those impacted in the days and weeks ahead as they begin to recover. ❤️

Our North Louisiana team participated in a large-scale emergency response exercise at Shreveport Regional Airport alongside our partners at the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, and Overton Brooks VA Medical Center.

The exercise focused on coordinating support for individuals and families affected by a major disaster event. During the exercise, Red Cross volunteers and staff practiced critical response activities, including reunification support, providing shelter and essential resources, and ensuring families have care and support while loved ones receive medical attention.

Exercises like this strengthen our readiness and highlight the importance of collaboration across emergency management, healthcare, aviation and community partners. By working together, we can provide comprehensive support to individuals and families during times of crisis, no matter where a disaster occurs.

❓ Did you know the American Red Cross plays a role in transportation emergencies? As part of our designation by the National Transportation Safety Board, we provide family care and assistance following aviation disasters and support communities impacted by large-scale transportation incidents.

Congratulations to these Northeast Louisiana volunteers who have achieved an important milestone: becoming Disaster Action Team Supervisors!

DAT Supervisors play a key role in coordinating local disaster responses and supporting volunteers as they help families recover from emergencies such as home fires, tornadoes and floods. Each volunteer earned a leadership pin in recognition of the hours they dedicated to training, their commitment to service, and their promotion into this vital position.
