Kennesaw State University Math Circle

Kennesaw State University Math Circle KSU Math Circle is a group of mathematicians and high school students who collaborate to solve interesting problems in mathematics.

Kennesaw State has an institutional commitment to community engagement. It has recently launched the Engage KSU Community Engagement Initiative. The definition of community engagement comes from the Carnegie Foundation. It is “The collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of kno

wledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.” The goal is to become one of the Carnegie Community Engagement Institutions. The KSU Math Circle fits perfectly with this idea which will be central to the mission of the University.

Pizza and Math! Does it get any better! Last night we had fun with Magic Squares. Look at the 3x3 and 4x4 Magic squares. Can you find any patterns in them? Can you construct more of each type? We'll continue our work on Magic Squares next time. You don't have to have been present for the first session to enjoy the second session. Look for our observations from the first session in a posting next week.

Currently we are working with our KSU Foundation Development Office to seek funding for our KSU Math Circle. We are also working with our Office of Grants and Contracts for potential grants. We received a Dolciani Mathematics Enrichment Grant for our 2012 KSU Math Circle Summer Camp and plan on submitting another one for our 2013 Summer Camp.
