ditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the public is invited to offer comments through CALEA’s new Public Comment Portal. The purpose of this comment portal is to receive public feedback regarding an agency’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. CALEA encourages law enforcement agencies to adhere to strict best practices, guidelines, and procedures. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving is dangerous, claiming 3,308 lives in 2022 alone. There were an estimated 290,000 people injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers. Almost 20 percent of those killed in distracted driving-related crashes were people outside the vehicle – pedestrians, cyclists, and others on the road.

When you’re behind the wheel, the most important thing is the task in front of you – not a text, call, post, picture, music, other passengers, or anything else that takes your mind and eyes off the road.

For more than two decades, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. Speeding is a contributing factor in far too many traffic fatalities. Just because you are doing the speed limit doesn’t mean you aren’t speeding. Slow down in bad weather, poor visibility, and construction areas.

The 100 Days of Summer H.E.A.T. (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) campaign is a multi-jurisdictional highway safety program designed to reduce fatal crash counts during Georgia’s deadly holiday driving period from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Law enforcement partners operate 100 Days of Summer H.E.A.T. in all corners of the state, looking for all manner of unsafe motorists...from drunk drivers and aggressive drivers to distracted drivers who continue to text while behind the wheel.
